Passing the point of no return
(Credit: Looney Tunes featuring Wile E. Coyote. © Warner Bros.)

Runaway climate has a new meaning: a climate system pushed beyond the point of no return, when devastating consequences for young people are locked in, impossible to avoid. Below is the latest draft of Chapter 10 of Sophie’s Planet, which will be published in Green Energy Times. For context, it includes the last paragraph of Chapter 9 of Sophie’s Planet.

Meanwhile, as our instrument for the Venus mission was being built, we became involved in investigations of changes in our own planet’s atmosphere. Eventually, our desire to understand those changes overwhelmed our interest in other planets. However, before leaving the planets, let us see what the Goldilocks planets can tell us. That topic is addressed in my first book, Storms of My Grandchildren,[1] where I stumbled and did not distinguish between the Venus Syndrome and runaway climate. For the sake of a coherent scientific explanation, in the next chapter I commit three writer’s sins by: (1) disclosing an event out of chronological order, (2) showing a graph, and (3) including a simple equation. You may choose to skip lightly over a chapter heavy in technical science. However, runaway climate has a new meaning: a climate system pushed beyond the point of no return, with devastating, unavoidable consequences. We must learn from lessons of the past to avoid handing young people a situation out of their control.

1953 Iranian coup d'état - Wikipedia

The US-UK coup (1953) was much closer in time to the embassy takeover (1979) than that takeover is to this week’s US attack on Iran en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1953_Ir...

Trump didn’t even pretend to try to make the case for war with Iran

Trump: ‘Freedom’ for Iran is goal of ‘major military operation’ The president spoke to The Washington Post early Saturday after announcing that the U.S. had begun striking Iran to bring about regime change.

“JD Vance said that any operation Trump initiates in Iran would not result in the U.S. becoming involved in a drawn-out war:

“‘The idea that we’re going to be in a Middle Eastern war for years with no end in sight — there is no chance that will happen.’”

So let’s think about this.

A private company refused - on principle - to yield to the government’s demands.

The government then cancelled its contracts with the company and has set about destroying it

Ask yourself if producers are going to keep swallowing most of this or will they now pass it on to consumers, including Trump's constituents.

Justice Department withheld and removed some Epstein files related to Trump An NPR investigation finds the public database of Epstein files is missing dozens of pages related to sexual abuse accusations against President Trump.

The Justice Department has withheld several Epstein files related to allegations that Trump sexually abused a minor. It also removed documents from the public database where accusations against Epstein also mention Trump.

Many files have not been made public despite a law mandating their release.
