Went to Carlisle last Friday to see β€˜Blue Peter’ arrive with the β€˜Cumbrian Mountaineer’ railtour. Such a beautiful engine with a very strong following, judging by the number of people present!

Yes, while I understand modern day requirements for access to this signal; the way Network Rail did it is a disgrace

The structure supporting the semaphore is appalling

Yes, the new trains entered service in 2024; must have been quite a job getting them to the railway!

They do look good in the landscape although maybe don’t have as much charm as the old ones

It is a beautiful place and I absolutely agree with you

Calton Hill offers a superb view of Edinburgh, especially during the β€˜blue hour’ before darkness. This was the view yesterday; the monument is to Dugald Stewart, philosopher and mathematician, and luminary of the Scottish Enlightenment in the 18th/19th centuries.

Catch them while you can; 2026 may well be the last year of High Speed Trains in passenger service. This is the 07:10 from Aberdeen to Edinburgh Waverley entering Haymarket on 10 December 2025

Not sure, but there are a lot of active steam locos in the UK on heritage lines and working railtours on the main line
