absolutely worth a watch if you haven't already. if only I'd seen this film ten years ago, while I was still in my "download parts of my personality from media" era. and this film has bumped Rocky Horror Picture Show way up in my list of things to experience.

this movie was fantastic. coming-of-age films are some of my biggest guilty pleasures. it is a bit annoying to see myself lacking in various experiences when compared to a fictional character half my age. but that's what I get for living inside of my head so frequently, I guess?

I'm not sure I've ever watched or read anything paced quite like it. I like the way it plays with characters' perspectives. and the last big climactic moment the mc gets is just wonderfully bizarre and an extremely bold and eccentric choice of "payoff" for the character's growth.

the storytelling path the show takes is absolutely bizarre to me, but very effectively illustrates the main character's metamorphosis away from self-centeredness. the show definitely embodies the full proverb it's titled after (which really hooked me since I didn't know the whole thing til the end).

the show had some great imagery and lovely colours, but... god... it's so Anime. I only have so many over-the-top OISHIIIIIIIs left in me T_T

it's hard to pin down my feelings on Japanese culture (if I am to assume the serious bits of show accurately represents said culture). it... simply Is.

the last "slice of life" I watched in this vein was Your Lie in April, almost 10 years ago. this didn't really tug at my heartstrings in the same way, but maybe that's because I'm older.

before we recommend it - absolutely.

growing up means killing your darlings, right?

I think it's totally okay to shut your eyes and go lalala and play in the sandbox, even as an adult - just be self aware of it and do it with other people who are on the same page. dont track sand back inside.

painfully relatable. most times when i play card games, at some point or another i find myself asking myself why i do this to myself. watching people have fun with this game (no less in an environment of your design) is often more reliably fun and interesting than playing by yourself

this is why battle boxes & mirror matches are the best. no complaining when you and your opponent are using the same gun loaded with the same bullets :D

all that is to say - I agree, the average music event's setting, lighting, and music choice have a stupid amount of character, and getting immersed in that has led to some of my best memories. just sucks how hard the ask seems when I'm with friends. maybe delusion is best done alone ^~^

maybe I was so focused on dancing or the music that I only ever perceived the small group that I was with, or even just myself. maybe inebriation kept my "render distance" pretty low. maybe I was in a tightly spaced room (i.e. _REALITY) and couldn't see past the row of people in front of/behind me.

I just... can't really possibly imagine how to get a room of 80 people in VRChat all resonating to something in the same way. I've given sooo much thought to Perception and how it relates to the platform and keep concluding that my favourite times on the platform involved "limited perception".

in aggregate compared to who i've met in these spaces, i sometimes think to myself that im "taking vrc too seriously". usually that happens when I am really, really in the mood to "buy into" what's around me and the others around me very much don't. The Vibe is just so, so crucial.

i feel this and think there is a ridiculous amount of "immersion breaking" potential in the average vr event and these things are, by and large, out of one individual person's control - avatars, stickers, yap that spirals too far or doesn't really fit with the event's aesthetic.

plus, this congregates an amazing breadth of cubes in one place in a way such that one can do a non-cube main event and then still cube during degen hours afterwards.

23.01.2026 04:33 — 👍 1    🔁 0    💬 0    📌 0

i would consider the spikey prized events a beacon of light sucking everyone potentially stinky away from the cube main event and go in having the yoinkiest sploinkiest time i could. hopefully top8 and the winner get bespoke pins, and that beats any prize ticket reward i could think of

as someone who is not attending who got a bit too overwhelmed at the size of bcp and cubecon - with the density of local grassroots cube events now, there is no reason to fomo into cube at an event like this. i would encourage entering a non-cube main event!

using a club instead of relying on guns (passing multiple dream trawlers and drafting a rareless mono red deck)

chess is, by contrast, an awesome game, because it's super duper optimal to press and try to take space in many scenarios. games that reward aggression and interaction are the most fun, imo. go try to control the center and develop your pieces and castle and get those fundies up :D

i think about super smash bros. 4 and ultimate a bunch, and my personal opinion that the game's fun factor is carried very heavily by simple implicit agreement between both players that we are here to play and interact by-and-large and not camp each other out until round timeout
