If we really want to fight facism and all the other battles, we need to face COVID so we’ll be healthy enough.

It’s too convenient to not focusing directly on COVID and just blame it on Trump, and it lets us all off too easily.

And by not putting that front and center, we hide the thing that is *directly* hurting us. That means people are able to continuously take risks that put them and others at long term damage and we continue to hide the real effects of COVID.

I'm not at all saying that allostatic load isn't interesting to consider; if the chronic overload of toxic bullshit in the last 10 years didn't overlap with COVID, perhaps it would be the top consideration.
But the reality is that for most people, COVID explains basically all of the extra sickness.

We can feel totally wrecked about events right now, even physically ill, but there is a clear scientific explanation for why people are sicker than ever right now and it’s COVID.

Deny reality that contradicts your worldview
Refuse to take accountability
Punish those who do not obey/ agree with you

Now that everyone in the world is seeing how fucked up this is, maybe have some compassion for people who grew up with parents like this?
