Had the same letter myself, Tristan. I wouldn't worry about it too much. The press in question used to be an interesting, fairly radical outfit (though never as radical as they fancied themselves), but since they lost their AC grant they've gone downmarket. A bit of a busted flush these days, tbh.

Into Harrogate hospital for an op to correct the double vision yesterday. Left eye cut & stitched and hopefully fixed, though Old Red Eyes, as The Beautiful South put it, will be around for a while. Big thanks to the marvellous team who oversaw it all - the NHS at its unprivatized, unleeched-on best

Very sad to hear about the death of brilliant Lorraine Cheshire. Here she is carrying one of the best scenes from a sitcom ever

Apologies, all, for the long Bluesky silence. But just to say I'm going to try harder to make this account work in future, by posting stuff and making it my main social media outlet. The others, you hardly need telling, are rotten with ads, promotions, and claptrap. More to follow, watch this space.

Or 'different gravy, same pie', as my brother more gastronomically put it to a camvasser at the last election. Totally agree: Labour seems to have reached the point of irreversible degeneration.

Labour could tax the super-rich to end poverty, build social housing and fix our NHS.
They are choosing to go after the worst-off instead.
For a while, many people didnβt know what this government stood for. They do now: tough choices for the poor, endless money for war.
