I am immensely disappointed that the Government has today scrapped permanent refugee status. Refugees will now face reviews every 30 months and be forced to return if their country is deemed 'safe'.
We know that countries listed as 'safe' aren't safe for everybody, particularly LGBTQ+ refugees.
So if Iβve understood correctly, weβre going to carry on supporting illegal wars whilst also blaming people who flee the ensuing chaos and destruction

Almost 60 heads of university departments in physics and related disciplines have told science minister Lord Patrick Vallance that the cuts will damage the UKβs scientific standing and government efforts to boost clean energy, advanced manufacturing & security.β

02.03.2026 07:00 β π 22 π 13 π¬ 0 π 0Speaking to the Guardian on the day before the byelection result, Mahmood urged her colleagues to acknowledge that the UK public had βlegitimate grievancesβ about the unfairness of allowing people to arrive in small boats and the strain on public services from excessive immigration.
Compare and contrast Starmer calling Green's "extremists", "divisive" and "sectarian" with Mahmood repeating false Reform claims about "legitimate concerns" and "strain on public services". It isn't a choice between Reform and Labour when end result is the same.
www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2026...
Reform's language may be more hostile, although that is debatable with some of this government's rhetoric, and their policies more explicitly racist, but the outcome is the same, migrants being denied rights and deported, asylum seekers left without safety, and embedding racism all for starters.

28.02.2026 16:00 β π 16997 π 6535 π¬ 469 π 550What the Greens did is the opposite of sectarianism. They looked at what the British public might be interested in and what unites them. Muslims donβt just vote on Gaza you plebs. Theyβre in the economy, housing crisis and using the NHS too. Weβre whole people.
28.02.2026 11:01 β π 66 π 6 π¬ 4 π 2At this point, itβs a conscious choice to ignore the harm their policies are doing, both to migrant communities and to their electoral prospects - suggesting itβs an ideological commitment, at least for Mahmood. Also disingenuous to conflate the planned change to settlement with βillegal migrationβ
28.02.2026 11:37 β π 112 π 35 π¬ 6 π 2
The current argument of the British right is that Muslims turned out in "blocs" with "family voting" to cast their ballots for a party led by a gay Jewish man, and this shows that multiculturalism has failed, voting is "sectarian" and we are in a crisis.
Hmmmmmm.

Hard to recall a war that even those starting it couldn't really come up a pretence for. They've already blown up nuclear weapons capacity and bombing won't force the regime out.

Itβs a running joke in academia that Matt Goodwin is bad at maths.
This sort of thing is why: the combined Labour/Green vote could have split in any way possible and Goodwin would have finished 2nd or 3rd. He did not lose because progressives coordinated. He lost *in spite of them not doing so*.
If the Muslims were integrated, they would haveβ¦voted for a more socially conservative candidate? As ever βWant to get stupider? Try Racism (TM)β never fails.
27.02.2026 11:43 β π 589 π 117 π¬ 50 π 5Iβm afraid this letter shows why so many Labour MPs think Starmer needs to go. His political antenna is non-existent. If you have just been humbled in a by-election it might not be the best idea to slag off the choices of the voters who deserted you in their droves.
