This is why I advocate for managing one’s social media use, especially on algorithmic platforms, as it’s often a vector for useless conflict and envy and hyperbole and oversimplicity whether individually in the name of engagement or systematically to manipulate you to keep scrolling

Part of the insidiousness of today’s capitalism is that companies in general want you to be stupid and envious and scared because then you’ll spend more money on them and every company is doing this all at once which makes it harder to break out of it

Discord age-verification bullshit is dumb as hell for a lot of reasons like Their Own Lack of Security and it also comes back to the tangled stupid web of wealth extraction by US billionaires working hand in hand with christofascists who all benefit from a panicked and reactionary populace
