Good to celebrate DC’s local business community at the Chamber’s Choice Awards & Gala!

Happy Veterans Day! Deep gratitude for our neighbors who served.

I got to spend the morning with veterans at #AbramsHall at The Parks at Walter Reed, sharing coffee, donuts, & flag pins.

Grateful for groups like HELP USA for providing permanent supportive housing to residents who bravely served.

This is a bad deal, and the old way of doing things is clearly not working.

We need new leaders in the Senate.

From Virginia to New Jersey to New York, voters want leaders to stand up to authoritarianism and fight for affordability. Congrats to all the Democratic candidates who won tonight!

We need real data-backed solutions that center the safety & dignity of our young people.

Last week, young people & youth groups shared great ideas with council.

I'm proud to be holding a hearing next month on a bill that extends the hours at rec centers evenings & weekends.

Federal armed agents should not be enforcing DC's juvenile curfew. That's why I voted against the extension of a juvenile curfew.

I asked if we can be sure that there would be no federal involvement in enforcing the curfew. The answer was No.

We need to protect our young people.

Homes and Hearts increases DC's local match of the federal earned income tax credit and converts it from an annual payment to a monthly one.

The mayor's last budget effectively eliminated planned increases. Now, the DC Council found a way forward.

Let's continue to build upon our progress!

If the federal government is going to fail working families, the local government will have their backs.

I've long believed and worked to make sure working families have the support they need. That's why several years back, I proposed and the council passed Homes and Hearts.

Today, the DC Council voted to put money into the pockets of hardworking families who need it most, in a time when they need it most.

DC will move forward with a 100% match of federal earned income tax credits in tax year 2025, and reestablish a DC child tax credit starting tax year 2026.

Special shout out to the C.A.N Foundation for providing scholarships, as well as Dr. Cox for your leadership and invitation to be witness to our students taking this important step!

I’m so proud of our #Ward4 scholars! They are the future and the future is bright ⭐️⭐️⭐️

The entire school community @capitalcitypcsdc came together to cheer on our seniors as they sent off their college applications.

They are taking a bold step, and DC has their backs.

Congrats to the honorees, including @freedcproject.bsky.social. Free DC has trained DC defenders like no other.

DC is better because of leaders like y’all 👏🏾 !

It's important to recognize the DC leaders who are doing the work to make sure our young people thrive now and in the future.

Thank you to DC Action for giving us the space to celebrate our leaders. DC Action has also been a fierce advocate for working families and early childhood educators.

Our community deserves transparency on the extent of MPD's coordination with the federal government in its unlawful, anti-immigrant campaign.

People want to talk about supporting our Black, native Washingtonians. Then they strip the very laws that our people have benefited from for decades - and pay lip service in the process while stealing opportunity from straight under their feet. Shame.

First it was single family, then it was new builds, now 2-4 units. The single greatest tool we have for preserving affordable housing and building generation wealth. . All sales going forward will be to be venture capital firms and private equity. This major door to homeownership closed.

Today, the Council is voting on a last-minute amendment to the RENTAL Act — one that could strip rights from thousands of tenants living in 2-4 unit buildings.
 
When we exempted single-family units from TOPA, there was a 7-hour hearing with hundreds testifying. Tenants deserve no less now.

Signs popping up around D.C. note: ‘ICE kidnapping happened here’ The signs range in style and mark numerous locations where people have been taken by federal agents.

Every sign in DC marks the loss of someone’s neighbor, someone’s loved one, someone’s friend.

Yesterday, we celebrated and remembered the life and legacy of Thomas Mangrum Jr.
 
Thomas was a fierce and effective   champion of disability and queer rights in the District and this country, and a proud athlete in the Special Olympics DC.

While congress sits on its hand, local officials must act to defend their communities.

During a time when our norms and rights are under attack, it's up to local governments to reinforce the rights of our people and fight back with every tool we have.

I assume so or procurement wouldn’t have gone through but I don’t know for certain. My office has always had to get approval from OGC and there is usually a high level of scrutiny even for our e-newsletters.

I think it’s a misuse of the limited resources we get as Council offices and I am shocked our OGC approved it.
