Sunday was the 56th anniversary of the moon landing (July 20, 1969). At the Museum of Printing, we have the printing plate of the front page of the New York Times that proclaims: “Men Walk on Moon”. So cool!! Just one of the fabulous things you'll see when you visit!

The Museum of Printing is now a member of Museums for All!

Through Museums for All, those receiving food assistance (SNAP benefits) can gain free or reduced admission to more than 1,500 museums throughout the United States. SNAP recipients, come see us any Saturday from 10 am to 4 pm. Free!

The Museum of Printing is seeking a scanning service to digitize twenty-five years and more than 6,000 11x14 pages of TypeWorld/Electronic Publishing magazine. Most are in bound volumes. We prefer a New England individual or service. All quotes considered. Contact info@museumofprinting.org.

The Freedom Project Kolekcja, a collection of art by artists from twenty-two countries will be at the Museum of Printing from August 1st to November 1st addressing human rights, war, violence, and social and racial injustice.

A reception will be held at the Museum on Saturday, August 2 at 3 pm.

We have increased the number of Ludlow matrice cabinets from one to four, which provides many more fonts on hand for typesetting on our Ludlow. Come see it in operation any Saturday from 10 am to 4 pm or by appointment by e-mailing info@museumofprinting.org.

There is a new exhibition at the Museum of Printing until August 30: a portfolio of nineteen fine art prints made by various artists at the Shepherd & Maudsleigh Studio sized to resemble 18th century broadsides to commemorate the the “shot heard round the world.”

This month we celebrate paper in print + book design. We also feature paper in Dwiggins’ timeless classic Layout in Advertising (1928). Paper for Dwiggins is more than support – it’s an active participant of design. Texture, tone, and feel matter.

The Museum of Printing now has a Little Free Library across from the entrance. It was ordered, built, reinforced, painted, and installed through the work of several volunteers. There’s even a Free Tiny Library inside it!

Our Director of Operations, Mitchel Ahern, is in Rochester in preparation for the 2025 APA Daredevil Wayzgoose, which is being held next week (June 5-8). He printed a 260-foot banner with letterpress which will remain at the SHED center at RIT until June 10.

This Saturday (May 31 at 1 pm), Museum of Printing President Frank Romano will give a talk on typography, a topic to which he brings a unique perspective. Come learn about typography and the important role it plays in the history of printing.

On this Memorial Day, we remember George Mergenthaler, killed in action on December 18, 1944 in Luxembourg while serving in the U.S. Army, a member of a 28th Infantry Division’s Mechanized Reconnaissance Unit. he was grandson of Ottmar Mergenthaler, inventor of the Linotype.
