Medical care for farmed animals is nearly always inadequate or non-existent on farms. Sanctuaries normalize medical care for farmed animals, AND strive to break the barriers to quality care for farmed animals, helping to progress veterinarian science and increase the quality of care for all species.

Palliative care is used to manage pain and symptoms when an individual is experiencing serious or life-threatening conditions, aiming to improve their quality of life and comfort.

Curative care is used to treat illnesses and conditions to restore an individual’s health.

Preventative care such as check-ups, vaccines, reproductive care, and parasite control help maintain overall health and can eliminate or help identify potential problems before they become serious.

Medical care for ALL!

At MRC, our goals are to continue promoting high, companion-level care standards for all non-humans; to break down the speciesist divide between “companions” and “others”; to empower activists of all backgrounds to participate in animal rescue; and to help achieve liberation for all beings.

Caring for aging residents is a hallmark of sanctuaries, and one of the most powerful testaments to what it means to value animals’ lives.

Don’t believe the hoax of “humane” branding for animal products. Support sanctuaries instead — and of course, go vegan.

When a chicken egg hatches, there’s a roughly 50 percent chance that the chick inside will be male. This is a problem in the egg industry, where it’s cheaper to kill male chicks after birth than to raise them as broilers.

How U.S. Taxpayers Bailed Out the Poultry Industry, and Helped Entrench Avian Flu

Cal-Maine Foods, the nation’s largest egg producer, appears to be having a bumper year. The company’s stocks soared to a record high, as its net sales rose by a staggering 82 percent last quarter. It also received $44 million in indemnity payouts due to bird deaths tied to avian flu.

Through the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection indemnity program, poultry farmers are paid for “infected or exposed poultry and/or eggs that are destroyed” to control bird flu. The bailout is set to only expand as H5N1 spreads, prompting the mass culling of more domestic flocks.

As the avian flu outbreak has continued to spread, the government bailout of the poultry industry has ballooned too, with indemnity payouts and additional compensation totaling $1.46 billion.

Microsanctuaries make it possible to care for liberated animals without having dozens of acres or hundreds of thousands of dollars. Microsanctuaries that are home to a couple of hens, a few rats, or a tank of fishes all matter.
