Today, after an explosive report from the AJC revealed that sitting Republicans at every level of government have received thousands of dollars in donations from the far-right activists behind Newnan-based First Liberty Building & Loan- a firm with deep GOP party ties that is accused of defrauding investors of $140 million-the DPG is calling on Republicans who received the Ponzi scheme proceeds to return the money to the victims. First Liberty's founder is accused of illegally funnelling investor money into Republican campaigns and candidates to the tune of $570.000, Brian Kemp received $7500 across separate donations from Liberty's founders for his first gubernatorial bid. The Georgia Republican Party has received more than $23,000 from Liberty's founders across more than 30 donations since 2019. Other recipients of the proceeds of the Ponzi scheme include U.S. Representatives Andrew Clyde and Rich McCormick, Public Service Commissioners Tim Echols and Fitz Johnson, State Senators Shawn Still and Greg Dolezal, and State Representatives Charlice Byrd, David Clark, Noelle Kahaian, and Colton Moore. "We have just learned that numerous Republican elected representatives are funded by money defrauded from unsuspecting Georgians. Now the question is whether Brian Kemp, the Georgia Republican Party, and all the electeds who received this money will do the right thing and return it to the hardworking Georgians from whom it was stolen," said DPG Chair Charlie Bailey. ###
