HB 246 - Increase Minimum Wage

Increases minimum wage for non-supervisory employees (incl'g tipped workers) to $17/hr (from $12/hr or $3/hr for tipped workers) effective 1/1/26.

Raise School Employee Minimum Wage

Increases minimum annual salary for licensd educatnl assistants frm $25k to $30k per year (effective 2025-26 school year); mandates all school districts pay $15/hr min'm wage or $30k/yr min'm salary to all (licensd & unlicensd) school personnel.

Creates a new license for Speech-Language Pathology Assistants and repeals the Apprentice in Speech and Language license.

HB 156 - Increase Educational Salaries

Increases minimum salaries for public school teachrs & counselrs by $5k/yr, to $55k for Level 1; $65k for Level 2; and $75k for Level 3 teachrs & counselrs.

HB 52 - Rural Health Care Tax Credit Eligibility

Expands eligibility for Rural Health Care Tax Credit to include licensed EMTs, paramedics, LPNs, speech-language pathologists, occupational therapists and chiropractic physicians.

HB 96 - Interstate Teacher Mobility Compact

Permits NM to initiate or join interstate compact to facilitate mobility of teachrs acrss mbr states & support teachrs thru a new pathway to licensure. States would estab collectv regulatry framewk to expedite teacher licensg across state lines.

HB 11 - Paid Family & Medical Leave Act

Creates PF&ML Fund & program, admin'd by DWS, to pay eligible workers a % of wages to bond w/ new child, care for family mbr, prepare for / adjust to spouse's deploymt, protect self or family mbr frm violence.

I know the federal government feels like a hot mess, and it’s easy to feel hopeless—but there’s still so much we can do at the state level. Right now, the New Mexico state legislature is in session, and there are critical bills being considered that could directly affect your life.

A few years ago, I got involved with a state professional organization (I’m a speech-language pathologist, or SLP) and realized how important state government is. State laws impact my daily work far more than federal ones, yet few pay attention unless it makes national news.

I have been educated about the TikTok shenanigans, so they are no longer on the chopping block...for now.

If that were the standard it would be low.
And yet one party went there and one party is no where close to that bar.

I think the goal is to make sure everyone is serving them. People are disposable, like a paper towel. But we can always make more. If people decide they would like to control that, then their rights will be taken away.

Pretending that wasn't what it was is a very dangerous game to play.
