We began a process today that might remind you of a sliding tile puzzle! Tye and Liz sure had fun with this one! The Alpaca Guys all moved in with the Alpaca Gals today (the boys were long ago neutered and are elderly to boot - no offspring, we promise). That went smoothly. Moving with them are Ellie the Pyreneese/Anatolian and Dakota the Pyrenees. THEN, moving the four Kune Kune pig kids (Mirabella, Belladonna, Eddie Poe and Willie Blake) to what used to be the Alpaca Gals space. Once everyone is completely settled in, we will be adding our delightful foster fail pair of Kune Kune emergency rescues! The Alpaca web camera will be adjusted this week. The big hayfeeder moved, and other components have to move shortly too. See? It is like a sliding tile puzzle! And there will be more moving around to come as winter starts to hint that she is around the corner. Thank you Volunteer Sue for the photos! #WeAreSanctuary

Wish Jaina Osa Pig (9) happy birthday! Osa has a larger than life personality, she is queen of the Big piggies' paddock. Her arthritis has been an issue this past year, but we are treating it with the help of Cornell's vet hospital.

We want to wish Jaina Goat (10) happy birthday! Jaina is a quiet gal, so some of you may not have met her. she is a miniature silky fainting goat.

We are so happy to show you Poppy meeting Pearl at Poore House Sanctuary in West Newbury MA on Tuesday. It is beautiful to watch these gals experience the ground, grass and mud, a whole new world!

It has been an intense week of surrender calls this week, and behind-the-scenes work to save many farmed animals (and also companion animals). I often can't share details of some rescues because if needed, I promise privacy and non-disclosure to achieve the Save. It is so important to try. I can't imagine doing anything else but sometiimes there is heartbreak when I cannot save an animal. We cannot take in all resuces who need us but we try to save as many as we can. Those of you who know me, know that I often hope for expansion land. Every day I work with our team to combine our humane education efforts with the amazing care of the rescues here, plus outreach for the public's engagement, to grow what we do. Kindness and Compassion matter. Thank you for being on the journey with me. #WeAreSanctuary

As Easter approaches, we want to remind everyone that bunnies live 10 years on average, need specialized veterinary care, and breed like, well...

A chocolate bunny is a better choice for your kiddo's basket. Still gotta have one? Shelter bunnies are already spayed and neutered. 🐰🧡

Our stone dust footing helps a little (a bit like walking on an emery board to keep some of the hooves naturally trimmed. Bob Crockett really needed his done at this point, and he looks great. Thank you to bovine farrier Jon and the animal caregiver team here!🐮🐂 Your support makes this important and necessary care procedure possible!

This post is a long one, bear with me. I am going to start off with Mike's message: "If anyone wants to make or send a Get Well Penny Blossom Pig card, I will take them up to her at Cornell Nemo Farm Animal Hospital on Friday this week, and also next week. She will love them!" 🐷🌸Penny Blossom's update is that... SHE made a lot of decisions for us last week. If you have been following, she had been limping on her front here, and we got her up to Cornell quickly. It was definitely an infection, but after debriding the toe, it was actually a BONE infection all the way to the coffin bone. (I will share photos in the comments). With the agreement of the doctors, we made the choice to remove the infected toe, to ramp up the speed of her healing from months to weeks, to get her back to living happily at home sooner, reducing her pronounced pain, and having her living her life, not matter how long. She was not bearing weight on the infected bone after debridment, but now is noticeably brighter and bearing weight on the good toe. Having only one toe gives her some limits if anything happen to that toe. At ten years old, she deserves her best days to be at home. We are expecting to bring her back home in 3 weeks or so, if all goes well. Everyone there loves her, and she gets loving visitors from the other sanctuaries too. We don't focus on the cost directly, but we are always mindful of the costs (around $15,000-20,000 this trip) and mostly having our attention on her quality of life. Her skin cancer is under control too, and Cornell is learning a lot about the electrochemotherapy results with her. Mike drove back to NY to visit with her this weekend and she is doing well (after they reattached her IV more securely today). Any get well cards you want to make we will post them in her stall at Cornell, and later, here! Send them to UFS 17 Unity Ln, Sherborn MA 01770 or drop them off! 🐽

They hosted Gene Baur, founder of Farm Sanctuary for an inspiring talk, then the beautiful gift of time to visit their rescues. Great vegan food from GMonkey Mobile, Ayla's Bagels & Coffee, Love it Vegan & JP! John and Kathy, and Tye and Ann Wehr of Unity Farm Sanctuayr felt pretty happy to be there! Wyndham Farm (RI), Behind your Milk (MA) and Clover's Pig Preserve (CT) and many other dedicated animal activists and rescue friends were in attendance. We are stronger together, and we were inspired by the energy. 🙏💪⚡️

Penny Blossom has skin cancer that is not internal/metastatic. It needs somewhat regular attention and treatment. But she traveled to Cornell a week early when she could not bear weight on the front right. There is a deep infection lurking at the coffin bone they debrided.🙏

Although I don't want a return to the drought conditions of last fall, we are all getting a bit weary of the 34 degree rainy days. In fact, tomorrow morning will be cold enough for wintry mix and snow added in. Dudley, Pal, Hamish and Wallace don't really mind the damp and cold thankfully.
