Albuquerque set the national standard for rethinking public safety. Five years ago, we launched Albuquerque Community Safety to treat behavioral health, addiction, and housing as safety issues. Now cities like New York, Durham, and St. Paul are following our lead. Link in bio.

Albuquerque is taking real action to support neighbors experiencing homelessness and substance use challenges. We’re investing 1.9 million dollars in housing stability and supportive services, expanding ACS Street Outreach, and helping more people find safety and stability.

I stopped by GreekFest this weekend to celebrate culture, community, and some incredible food. Festivals like this bring people together and show what makes Albuquerque so special.

Albuquerque is at its best when we come together to care for our city. This week hundreds of City employees kicked off Operation Aloft, our annual Balloon Fiesta clean-up. Last year 10,000+ lbs of trash were collected and even more teams are out this year.

This month we made real progress: 61 new affordable homes at Calle Cuarta, opened NM’s first dental school, broke ground on ID Park, opened the Southwest Safety Center in Westgate, expanded youth + safety programs, and celebrated our community together.

Albuquerque is updating its traffic code for the first time in 50 years to save lives on our streets. The proposal strengthens protections for people biking, walking, and using trails, and aligns with Vision Zero to make our city safer for everyone.

Last Friday we signed legislation clearing the way for Pacific Fusion’s $1B campus at Mesa del Sol. This project anchors clean energy innovation, creates 200 high-wage jobs and hundreds more in construction, and puts Albuquerque on the map for fusion power.

In ABQ, LGBTQ+ rights are human rights. When I took office our equality score was a B. Today it’s 100% A+. We expanded protections, updated our human rights ordinance, added APD training and liaisons, and stood with our trans community. Progress we’re proud of.

Big wins for ABQ builders. We cut permit waits, cleared backlogs, and sped up inspections. Residential reviews went from 112 to 15 days, commercial from 121 to 37. Inspections now in 1 day, licenses in 2. Starting Oct 1, Express Permitting will make it even faster.

Albuquerque just opened New Mexico’s first Trauma Recovery Center, focused on healing, safety, and support. It brings therapy, outreach, peer support, and resources all under one roof so survivors don’t face trauma alone. A promise to make recovery accessible and rooted in trust.

Yesterday we opened the Southwest Safety Center, the first of its kind in Albuquerque. APD, AFR, and ACS are now working together under one roof on the west side. This 21,000 sq ft center will cut response times, add resources, and keep families safe.

Albuquerque and Las Cruces have a friendly wager on the big game. The losing city will fly the winner’s flag at City Hall Monday. The Rio Grande Rivalry is about pride, tradition, and community. We’ll see you Saturday.

Today we launched Uptown Connect, transforming an underutilized Uptown Transit Center lot into a vibrant plaza with 200+ affordable homes. Led by ABQ RIDE with partners, this project connects residents to housing, transit, and opportunity. More in bio.

As part of our Affordable ABQ plan, the CABQ Supper Meal Program serves hot, homecooked-style meals with local ingredients at 29 sites, about 7,000 each week. Kids still get meals during Fall, Winter, and Spring Breaks so families can count on support.

We’re expanding the School-Based Violence Intervention Program to Del Norte High, the 4th ABQ school with full-time mentors on campus. SBVIP boosts graduation, GPAs, and reduces suspensions by connecting youth to support, safety, and opportunity. www.cabq.gov/acs/vip/sbvip

We marked a major milestone with the opening of Touro Dental College, New Mexico’s first world-class dental training facility. It will expand access to affordable care, address our dental shortage, and create career opportunities for young people. A project to smile about.

This weekend we celebrated the first graduating class of the NextGen program. As part of the Semilla project, NextGen provides hands-on training for young people in climate resilient careers like restoring natural spaces, energy innovation, and more. Congrats to our graduates!

On August 18, the #ABQ City Council approved the request by
@mayorkeller.bsky.social for $2 million to start turning the 10-story north tower at San Mateo & Central into affordable housing. The 17-story south tower will follow later. If we reelect him, Tim Keller will complete this awesome project.

Political violence has no place in our country. The tragic death of Charlie Kirk is a reminder to recommit to our shared values, respect, and democracy.

Happy 80th to former Mayor Jim Baca! From bringing the Isotopes and building their park to elevating the Balloon Fiesta, transforming the ABQ Museum, and championing sustainability, his leadership left a lasting mark on our city.
