⏰Did you know that students in TX, NE, AR, MS, and AL attend 1.4 more years of school over a K-12 education than students in HI, NV, ME, OR, and RI? ‼️ In a new AERJ article, @matthewakraft.bsky.social and I document differences in time and show how much they matter.

6) Collective parenting: US is an individualist country - each family makes their own decisions about parenting. In Norway, I rely on the collective environment to help raise my kids. "Signing up" for this means less freedom but more also more time and support

5) Early learning: The US school offers Kindergarten (age 5). Learning to recognize letters and numbers and also some reading and math. Most kids can learn early, but what should you learn when? Time spend on academic activities is time not spent on something else.
27.10.2023 21:30 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0
4) Changing teachers: The US school has a new main teacher each year, while Norwegian schools typically change much less often. Teachers get to specialize on their grade level and students learn to adapt to new teachers and settings, but there is a trade off in stability.
