Finished Sad Grownups by @amystuber.com tonight. Talk about a punch to the solar plexus, especially that final story. So, so good (that’s the best review I can come up with after being up since 2am with a pukey 2yo).

After an 8-year hiatus, I starting writing again last spring. I’m now on the third edit of a novel. Treated myself to a new desk to keep the momentum going.

The icing leading to that bothered me too. Kasper forced a pass to a covered Kane when he was a foot or two from center ice. Game management.

Just finished this. A beautifully brutal novel by @miriamgershow.bsky.social Her ability to find the voices of such a disparate yet connected cast is inspiring. And that final line has shades of Gatsby in its brilliance. Highly recommend to my 4 followers.

Thanks for the quick feedback. I’ve been asking people in my social circle and just trying to gauge how the writing community in general feels. I’m an educator as well, and AI is something I’m generally opposed to.

Legitimately curious as a writer who is still contemplating this, where do you stand on things like Grammarly? Is there a meaningful distinction between grammar check and suggested rephrasing?

For Black History Month my school had an art competition for work that celebrates black history / culture. One student submitted a digital collage of black heroes: MLK speaking, LeBron dunking, PK Subban hitting, and Tiger Woods’s mugshot.

You catch the last 5 games at the end of the year? TB, NJ, FLA, DAL, TOR. Tough finish, but those are the teams you want to be competing with I suppose.

my own "don't get me started" horse is that the torture memos were the actual "that's the end of this country" moment. plenty of friends will point out the US aid both known and covert to e.g. Pinochet (et al) indicates that claims of moral stature for the US were already bullshit, and fair enough..

When my kids go through my old CDs on a Saturday morning, we go from The Used, to Rage Agains The Machine, to Fiona Apple, to Elliott Smith and The Faint. Angry, sad, silly—they dance to it all. Unexpectedly, even the most mournful and righteous becomes joyous. We laugh and we dance.

Let’s imagine the bosses are right. Small classes have no impact on learning. No intrinsic learning benefits.

But would it make the job better? YES. Would it help with teacher burnout? Retention? YES. Are happier and less-stressed teachers better at their jobs? Probably; it’s good regardless.

10 Yr HS teacher. This is the kind of tweak that can be effective but you’re clipping toenails on a cancer-riddled body.

Smaller class sizes. More $. LS programs. MORE TEACHERS.

“Put objectives on the board daily.” “Change your language slightly.” Okay…but uhh, that’s not the real problem here.
