🙂 Our “Fighting Chance Friday” email newsletters pay tribute to LCA’s original “Fighting Chance” magazine, which was started by founder Chris DeRose and ran from 1997-2014.

LCA continues to call on the Province of Ontario and the Canadian Government to finally come up with a plan for the whales that are suffering at Marineland, before it is too late.

➡️LCA applauds the decision by Minister Thompson. While difficult decisions lie ahead, sending the beluga whales to China was not the answer.

🎯💔Animals used for human entertainment and profit is always wrong - and the animals always suffer.

Thompson stated she could not, “in good conscience”, approve the permit. "To approve the request would have meant a continued life in captivity and a return to public entertainment," Thompson said.

This past Wednesday, 10/3/2025, it was announced that Canada’s Department of Fisheries and Oceans Minister, Joanne Thompson, denied Marineland Canada’s request for a permit to export 30 beluga whales to the notorious Chimelong Ocean Kingdom theme park in China.

LCA'a Rescued Hamsters

In honour of last week being #SmallPetRodentAwarenessWeek, LCA spoke with Laura, a wonderful animal advocate. Laura has shared her life with 3 rescued hamsters - Blake, River, and Max.

When fish are ripped out of the water they experience immense pain.

The meat industry breeds a cycle of systemic suffering and abuse across the board, for every animal. Choose to leave animals off your plate, in favour of healthy and humane vegan alternatives. 🌱 💚

Piglets are tail docked, ear notched and castrated - all without painkillers. Broiler chickens are bred to grow so fast they suffer from chronic pain and skeletal deformities. Each time a dairy cow gives birth, she has her calf taken away.

Each year, there is a staggering number of animals killed for food globally. Their lives are filled with constant pain and suffering.

Reports that Marineland plans to send belugas to China's Chimelong Ocean Kingdom theme park raise serious welfare. China has no national laws against mistreating captive animals, and its marine parks have a well-documented history of neglect and abuse.

LCA strongly condemns the decision by Marineland Canada to apply for permits to export all 30 of its remaining beluga whales and urges Canada's Minister of Fisheries to deny the permits.

An undercover investigation released by LCA exposes animal suffering at a breeding mill that breeds and sells tens of thousands of hamsters annually. Hamsters from these types of mills can end up in pet stores like Petco, PetSmart, and Petland.

Foxes and raccoon dogs are born and killed in fur factory farms. Coyotes are caught in archaic metal traps, trapped sometimes for days before being bludgeoned or suffocated to death. Woolrich boasts that they preserve and protect nature yet continue to support a trade that cruelly kills wildlife.
