LCA has proudly supported Virunga National Park and its courageous rangers since 2016. Through our “Save the Mountain Gorillas” campaign, LCA has been the primary supporter of the Park’s AirWing program, which provides critical aerial surveillance to protect wildlife and frontline rangers.

And thank you to everyone who sent condolences for Claude and Daniel. We had an outpouring on social media and also received a lot of emails to the LCA campaigns department. Thank you for honoring Claude and Daniel.

On World Ranger Day we want to honor Ranger Pilot Claude Nguo and Ranger Daniel Kakule, who tragically lost their lives last week in Virunga.

We want to also thank all the Virunga National Park Rangers who risk their lives every day on behalf of the animals, the Park and the local communities.

Tulsa Volunteers Needed

LCA is looking for volunteers in Tulsa, OK, who are willing to peacefully protest at the Tulsa Zoo, with a focus on the elephants.

The sooner that zoos catch up with the evidence and accept that elephants simply don't thrive in captivity, the sooner we can implement a strategic and compassionate phase-out of elephant keeping in zoos, and a renewed focus on their protection in the wild.

The Rangers face danger on a daily basis to protect the Park, the local communities, and the animals, including the endangered Mountain Gorillas. In the past 20 years, over 200 Rangers have lost their lives protecting the Park.

An investigation is underway to determine the exact circumstances of the incident.

LCA sends our heartfelt condolences to the families, loved ones, and colleagues of Claude and Daniel, and to everyone at Virunga National Park.

On Wednesday, July 23rd, 2025, Ranger Pilot Claude Nguo and Ranger Daniel Kakule lost their lives in the crash of a Bat Hawk aircraft near Lake Edward in Virunga National Park.

However, in the United States, no such standards exist. Despite positive steps taken by the U.S. to move away from animal testing, no federal law requires it.

Despite reliable non-animal alternatives available, approximately 400,000 rabbits worldwide are still used in pyrogen tests each year.

In June 2024, the European Pharmacopoeia announced it would end rabbit pyrogen tests by 7/1/2025 in favor of non-animal alternatives.

Pyrogens are fever-causing substances that can be found in injectable medications. During Rabbit Pyrogen Tests (RPTs), rabbits are forced into restraints, have substances injected into their ear veins and are monitored for fever developments. At the end of studies, they are killed.

Ban The Rodeo

The Calgary Stampede is Canada's oldest and deadliest rodeo. Last year, three horses died in chuckwagon races and one steer died after having his neck snapped during a steer wrestling competition. Rodeos are cruel spectacles that glorify animal abuse and normalize violence towards animals.
