LCA/ALW rescued nine dogs from the floor of a slaughterhouse; all nine were brought to the United States and put up for adoption.

LCA/ALW couldn't have fought so hard to end the dog meat trade without your support.

LCA/ALW released hard-hitting undercover investigations; staged public protests and actions; dropped banners; took out subway ads; and attended events to raise awareness and shift perspective among S. Koreans.

The fight to end S. Korea's dog meat trade was a hard-fought battle. LCA and our S. Korean sister organization, Animal Liberation Wave (ALW), engaged in a high-profile campaign to end the dog meat trade.

For the one million dogs who suffer and die in the meat trade annually, the ban couldn't come into effect soon enough. LCA/ALW will continue to work with the S. Korean government providing guidance, to ensure the ban is kept on schedule.

The ban is will come into effect on 2/7/2027; already S. Korea’s Ministry of Agriculture has reported that 70%, or 1,072 of the country’s 1,537 dog meat farms, have closed down with government compensation.

In a monumental step towards a more compassionate and humane society, S. Korea banned the dog meat trade on 1/9/2024. This historic move underscores a profound shift towards empathy, and the recognition of animals as sentient beings who deserve protection and respect.

Captive animals will continue to suffer at the hands of human beings until we collectively refuse to support exploitation for entertainment and profit.

➡️Boycott and speak out against industries that exploit animals for profit - Marine Parks, Zoos, Circuses, Rodeos, Horse Drawn Carriage Rides, Horse Racing, Greyhound Racing, Bullfighting, Bull Riding, Elephant Rides, Swimming with Dolphins, and any other venue where animals are used as commodities.

Allowing these animals to reproduce in the U.S. would undermine the law’s intent and condemn future generations to the same suffering.

If any export permits are issued, they must, at the very least, include a strict, enforceable ban on breeding. Canada’s Ending the Captivity of Whale and Dolphin Act was passed to end cetacean captivity.

Captive animals are treated as expendable, much like casualties of war, where their lives and deaths are determined by human interests and financial outcomes.

➡️This crisis is the direct result of animal industries like Marineland exploiting animals for entertainment and profit.

There are approximately 300 belugas in marine parks worldwide. About 30 are currently suffering in facilities in the U.S. If this export proceeds, that number would double to 60.

Canadian Fisheries Minister Joanne Thompson has conditionally approved a proposal to move the animals to four marine parks in the United States: Shedd Aquarium in Chicago, Georgia Aquarium in Atlanta, Mystic Aquarium in Connecticut, and SeaWorld. Final export permits have not yet been granted.

Marineland Canada has once again used the explicit threat of killing their animals to pressure the federal government into approving the export of its remaining beluga whales and dolphins.
