I like to study ancient toilets, privies, and fecal deposits. You can't lie in your poops! Not interested in romance, because straight men killed it for me. (Archeologist, Retired Farmer, Political/Economic Risk Analyst)

This mummy portrait from #Roman Egypt depicts a young woman who (based on her clothing & hair) lived & died about 1900 years ago. She was presumably part of a family of some wealth, as she is shown wearing some gilded jewellery, including earrings, a necklace, & a wreath in her hair ๐ŸบAncientBlueSky

A wooden pelican head and upper breast on a stand in a museum cabinet. The figure is brown with traces of light buff and dark brown pigmen. The background is muddy green. There are irritating shadows and reflections. Photo: Adam Markham 2023.

I love this evocative pelican head from Key Marco in Florida (Calusa, 700-1560 CE). The short bill means it must be a chick, and therefore probably a brown pelican. Unfortunately many other well-preserved organic artifacts deteriorated on site during Frank Cushing's 1896 dig.

The design worked. The specs required for the original build of the pentagon were required to be kamikaze proof. It was an admirable job.

We should have a discussion about how the producers of schlock archeology video have warped the world view. unXplained producers interviewed archeologists and then completely lied about what the scientists found. It forces the educated researcher to attempt to overcome the PR machine of a studio.

I am focused on Southwest Cork, Ireland. I completely agree. No one really talks about the copious amounts of monuments there. There is some great research on the Ogham sites that is getting folks involved.

Yes, the media exaggerates to get attention. I do not think the focus on those sites is held by most archeologists. It is easier to get grants from people who fall in love with things that can be seen, or touched.

Does the IrishStar work for the Trump administration? A political action was taken against a frightening organization, and you call the arsonist crazed? ICE has a 7% success rate and harms families and children. Any government organization that is 92% incorrect should be stopped, and reevaluated.

Secrets of rare Iron Age cauldrons revealed through archaeological investigation and replica creation | News | University of Leicester

Beautiful recreation of a Leicestershire Iron Age cauldron. Eleven of them found. Interpretation: Cooking food? Soups? Stews? I don't think so. As all traditional farmhouse brewers know, they are ideal for heating water for the mash.๐Ÿบ๐Ÿป

Interesting. The point of the paragraph was that the parent's discounting feelings leads to the child discounting their feelings. Do you think discounting feelings is a good thing?

๐Ÿบ Quite often, when I'm commissioned to make a replica of a new archaeological find, I will "limber up" by making a pot in the same genre with which I'm already familiar, so here I am making a Danish Bronze-Age beaker. Any "spares" almost always go into stock potted-history.co.uk
