That’s true! Wouldn’t mind a return to a 7 style reinvention next time, not so mechanically but more mining where and what else they can do in the horror sandbox. Try some spatter comedy again, psychological or supernatural bends, folk or found footage etc

Took me writing posts to realise that it's pretty much Sonic Generations but for Resident Evil; you get the third person high kick action, and the first person puzzle box, and it switches between the two nicely, rather than RE6 which was the same beige cover shooter in three different locales

Won't spoil the last section but very much the weakest part of the game, remaking one of the series' low points so far. That said! Despite how not cohesive it sounds on paper, the track switching works surprisingly well. Call it Sonic Generations for Survival Horror, and the past 8 years of RE

We get into some more experimental territory from there which, while a bit of a drag in spots, does go to show how much of a genuine AAA developer Capcom is with the likes of Naughty Dog and Square Enix. Impressive in scale and spectacle, but lacking adventure game smarts

The first section of the game is pretty much all-timer post RE7 territory. It's the police station meets dulvey mansion with all of the strengths. Brilliant puzzle box level design. And grace as a somewhat less capable Ethan Winters completely steals the game here

Rolled credits on RE9 a few hours ago, and pretty much processing the same feelings everyone else is. Felt like playing three distinctly different Resident Evil games, of varying but still high quality, back to back. Some more fully formed (spoiler-free?) thoughts to come.
