He was shoving a sous-chet in front of him, a young man who had put on techno music, a genre that Mr. Redzepi disliked, in the production kitchen. Far from the dining room, it was where unpaid interns worked
16-hour days, performing tasks like picking herbs and cleaning pine cones to adorn Mr.
Redzepi's celebrated New Nordic dishes.
Mr. Redzepi taunted the chef over and over as about 40 cooks, in short sleeves and aprons, formed the usual circle around the two men. It was not the first time they had been forced to participate in a public shaming, according to two chets who were present.
Mr. Redzepi escalated the attack, punching his employee in the ribs and screaming that no one would go back inside until the chef said, loud enough for all to hear, that he liked giving D.J.s oral sex. His co-workers stood in silence until he breathlessly complied. Then they filed back into the kitchen and returned to work.

#NBC and #PeacockTV coverage of the Paralympics is shameful. Trying to watch the women’s downhill events and there’s just… no commentary. Clearly a track exists b/c it’s shot for it but they just didn’t bother to check it was attached.

Absolute ableist bullshit.

I have seen a lot of cursed stuff in my time in academia but this is among the *most* cursed.
Grammarly is generating miniature LLMs based on academic work so that users can have their writing β€˜reviewed’ by experts like David Abulafia, who died less than two months ago.

Let’s talk about Graham Platner’s Big Lie, finally. In 2009, at the height of the Gulf War, the Marines barred him from active duty. Platner claims it was his forearm tattoos. But his one forbidden tattoo was the Nazi symbol on his chest. He knew - and he left the Marines rather than give it up. 1/

Platner has really wasted a lot of time that could have been used to find a better candidate and that's frustrating

okay so this seems pretty clear. he knows what it is, he did it on purpose, he chose keeping it over his career with the Marines, if we know this then Susan Collins will also know it, it will 100% come up in the general, let's be done talking about this guy as a real candidate

I was wondering this today, and Faine puts it in a much more sophisticated way, but what’s the term for the basic ability to imagine the consequences of actions? Like object permanence, but for blocks falling over.

Your reminder that Joss Whedon wasn’t allowed to be alone with 14 year old Michelle Trachtenberg.

Just if you’re getting excited about his career re-launch and don’t care about his revolting behaviour toward Charisma Carpenter.

ICO writes to Meta over 'concerning' AI smart glasses report Videos, including of glasses-wearers using the toilet or having sex, are sometimes reviewed by a Kenya-based subcontractor.

Last year when I was checking into a hotel, the desk person was wearing Meta glasses. I kindly asked them to take them off. They were annoyed. I said, β€œI do not consent to you looking at my credit card and ID with Meta glasses on.” My instincts were correct: www.bbc.com/news/article...

It’s entirely possible that this was at least partially about ending their association w/black and queer people. Now they will try to rebuild as the β€œsafe” third space, by which they mean a space where white people feel safe.

The problem is the usual one. We make shit cool.

Correction. Orwell never said this. He did however, warn that: "political language... is designed to make lies sound truthful and murder respectable, and to give an appearance of solidity to pure wind.” (That's Politics and the English Language, one of my favorite essays)

One thing about these big camp systems is that they inflict a tremendous amount of harm through sheer momentum. When a system is built to be both negligent and punitive, it tends to cause suffering by default.

Long-COVID Sufferer Awarded Nearly $1M After Employer Refused to Let Her Work From Home | Law.com A jury in Nassau County awarded $954,000 to a longtime employee of Stony Brook University Hospital Blood Bank.

A woman with Long Covid won almost one million dollars in a lawsuit against her employer who refused to allow her work from home accommodations.

May this set a precedent.

Remote work should be accessible to all who need it.

It’s a game changer for people with disabilities.

I have been playing around with this thought for a while and might expand it into a blog post or something:

An LLM feels like an adversarial attack on cognition.

What I mean by this is a sort of development of the arguments of others: unlike written text, LLM-generated text does not carry meaning.
