An open wooden box lined with green velvet. The box contains a trephine set made from metal. Some instruments have black wooden handles. There is also a small brush with ivory handle.
One of the oldest surgical instruments in our museum collection is this amazing trephine set dating from c.1740. It was made by Edward Stanton of London and contains 4 trephines, forceps, raspatory, lenticular, elevator and a tiny brush

Open wooden medicine box containing rows of glass bottles with cork stoppers.
This box was sold by a homeopathic chemist in Liverpool β Thompson and Capper. According to homeopathic principles, water βremembersβ which medicines were added to it and reactivates them when the water is consumed.
This object is on display in our gallery π www.rcpe.ac.uk/heritage/phy...

Sagging, deflected, and perilously close to collapse, the roof of St Jamesβs, Llangua was in a dire state before our repair project. Now, thanks to the tireless efforts of Jones & Fraser, the roof has been brought back to a condition much closer to its original medieval form.

I just got off the phone with the council, as they didn't bother contacting me. They've resealed the vault. The woman on the phone was a bit rude, but I'm glad it's sorted.

A black and white illustration in a black frame hanging on a white background. It shows a large hall with a stage, galleries and a packed audience.
In a change from our usual office, the History of Parliament team met today at the Foundling Museum. We of course spotted a 19thC item. Here is the 1857 Handel Festival at the Crystal Palace. The Hallelujah chorus could apparently be heard half a mile away.

"The Facemaker" by Lindsey Fitzharris on a wooden shelf.
The cover features a collage of WWI soldiers' faces forming a single silhouette.
Notecard below reads: "A gripping read - vivid, fascinating, harrowing yet utterly redemptive and inspiring.
Highly recommended."
I spotted the wonderful @drlindseyfitz.bsky.social in the 'staff recommended' section at Richard Booth's Bookshop (Hay on Wye) π

#OTD 1959, following lengthy campaigns, the flag of Wales was officially recognised by the United Kingdom Parliament and recognised as the national flag of the Welsh people. The flag was inspired by the battle standard created by Henry VII in 1485.

I also noticed that a few other similar vaults have been disturbed.
I've contacted the council and will be phoning them tomorrow as well.
I'll update when I have spoken to them, I can't stop thinking about it.

So, I went for a walk in a cemetery this afternoon and noticed a disturbed vault and quickly realised I could see a full human skeleton.
I did my best to cover the entrance into the vault, because I didn't want anyone else to see it.
