Trump press conference very interesting
1) pivoted from war to talk about gold drapes
2) now messing up (!) description of Medal-of-Honor winner, saying heroic action of Roddie Edmonds in saving Jewish fellow-soldiers took place in *July* 1945

all text from Washington Post Khamenei obituary
Although known for his fierce oratory, Herr Hitler never failed to have a twinkle in his eye when accepting a bouquet from a small girl, and he was devoted to his German Shepherd, Blondi.
He was famously passionate about classical music (especially opera) & the novels of Karl May

And on the subject of calendars, seasons, & zodiac: In a much simpler vein, here is the image for the month of March from Allgemeiner Kalender auf das Jahr Christi 1828 published by Josef Greis of Steyr, Austria. These were truly ephemera: used & thrown away. This one survived

Here's Rabelais as seen in a 19th-century biographical work
bearded man in orange-lined black gown over orange shirt, red shoes: holding a concial long-stemmed glass of red wine in his right hand, while the left rests on a gothic wooden stand holding two red-edged open books (one flat, one on a stand) net to a quill pen in an inkwell. The book on the stand seems to contain an illustration of a mythical or satirical creature, of the sort Rabelais has been credited with (https://www.gutenberg.org/files/8169/8169-h/8169-h.htm#2HCH0035)
from Le Plutarque français: vie des hommes et des femmes illustres de la France, depuis le cinquième siècle jusqu'à nos jours, avec leurs portraits en pied gravés sur acier, par Ed. Mennchet (Paris: Crapelet, edition of either 1835-36 or 1836-41)
the entry makes the point that, although Rabelais's works presented him as a cynical satirist, he was also deeply learned and trained in the humanist tradition
The illustration might suggest astrology & Pisces, but the poem indicates it is a reference to Lent (Carême). This brings to mind my beloved Renaissance literature:
Erasmus on the eating of fish

In 1614, guild members rebelling against patrician domination of Frankfurt vented their anger on the Jews in a pogrom. The Emperor restored order and had the rebels executed on 28 February 1616

A close-up of a small horse figurine carved from mammoth ivory with a weathered surface. The figure features a bowed head and arched neck, and all four legs are broken off. It's displayed on a dark, speckled platform against a black background, with soft lighting highlighting its contours.
As I'm attending a conference in Tübingen today, for #findsfriday an #IceAge masterpiece that is on display at the University museum: a tiny but most splendid figurine from the Swabian Jura - a #horse carved in mammoth ivory some 40,000 years ago - the oldest known sculpture of a horse.

b) found that the tour took us *around* the library but spent a great deal of time in the gym ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

In Paris or here, when I have finished writing and walk out of the apartment building or strike out from the path over the hill, if I encounter a turd it destroys all my hours of work.
That's what my pages are, it, him. Every turd I encounter is a torment every hour of the day. At night, the smell of them through the open window sneers at my next day's work. I shall write all the same. I want to be strong, like my mended basket hanging from the branch of a young oak, away from the ants, between the rocks where I am working. Yesterday I was sitting in X's basement. She combed my hair with her pocket comb. I told her that her comb in my hair felt like tenderness, that it was like kisses given to an old woman warming herself in the sun. How starved I must be! A thread.
If it snaps I shall begin weeping again for a week, for months, for years. I shall blow my nose noisily, I will not weep.
