After a big win against Sweden this morning, it is a tough one at the office against Latvia for the USA mixed 4-person team.
Barring a crazy comeback in the last 4 ends today, they'll likely need to win out to make the playoffs.
China had allowed two stolen ends all tournament entering the last draw of round robin play.
The United States stole 3 ends in that one game alone. They forced the hit-inclined China to throw more draws, and it paid off.
USA MOVES ON TO SEMI-FINALS!
Laura Dwyer and Steve Emt upend the undefeated China by stealing the 8th end. The United States will be playing for a mixed doubles medal in Cortina!!
Excellent draw from Laura Dwyer to score 2 and tie the game going into the 8th end.
If she can dial up another draw like that to start the 8th, the US could be put in good shape to steal.
Interesting change in this power play end with Steve Emt holding Dwyer's chair instead of holding the broom. It worked with Dwyer making a good draw.
China has had both rocks come up short so far. US needs to find a way to capitalize.

With a loss, they're eliminated in all but two scenarios.
Big win for Dwyer and Emt in mixed doubles to keep their playoff hopes alive. They have a tall task against China coming up tomorrow.
If they can win, they'll need a little bit of help to advance to semifinals. If they lose, they'll need a lot of help to move on.

I've never seen two curling stones this close to the center! I think it was actually too close for them to bring out the measuring tool!

Excellent pair from Matt Thums to give the USA a 3-2 lead through 3 ends. With no sweepers, playing draws on as wide a line as he had to go for his last can be a real challenge with frost and lack of rocks on the path.
Great discussion with the team on speed. Great execution.
