One of the defining feelings in American life, for decades now, is elites doing plainly criminal shit and nothing at all happening as a result. It is deranging in a way that virtually nothing else is. Media fixates on perceived street lawlessness but shit like this matters much more in my opinion.

This is your regular reminder that if Trump actually cared about anti-semitism he would be advocating for more, rather than less, DEI since it is DEI staff who have always been on the frontline of challenging all forms of bigotry on campuses including anti-semitism.

Institutions can close every office/end all initiatives. They’ll do harm and it’ll lead to setbacks, but I know as a DEI professional that institutions have dedicated staff, faculty, and students who will fight for DEI even in the face of institutional cowardice. That gives me hope during dark days.

What people in every part of higher education need to understand is that Republicans now want to do to universities what they’ve tried to do to labor unions: erase them from the institutional landscape. The question is how much you want to collaborate in your own destruction.

No matter your station in life, there is astoundingly little separating you from those men in that cage behind Kristi Noem. No charges, no attorneys, no hearings, no trial. Just conjecture and brute force could be enough to justify completely dehumanizing you, too.

It is truly sick that universities have preyed on international students for exploitatively exorbitant tuition fees and now they are allowing those same students to be thrown to the wolves with nary a fucking complaint.
