Very nostalgic trip to present at the Scottish Microbiology Association in Dundee. Could see the bridge my father worked on when I was a boy, and also my old house - all from my hotel window. I was the guest of an old school friend and heard a great talk from a student I taught 40 years ago (omg)!!

Trump’s Attempts to Muzzle the Press Look Familiar Much of what the U.S. president has done to curb independent media echoes the Hungarian autocrat Viktor OrbΓ‘n’s playbook.

β€œAs I watch from afar what’s happening to the free press in the United States during the first weeks of Trump’s second presidencyβ€”the verbal bullying, the legal harassment, the buckling by media owners in the face of threatsβ€”it all looks very familiar. β€œ
