The Engineering organisation, Arcadis, invited 15 of our female Year 8 and 9 students for a 'Women in Engineering' Workshop this week.
We listened to lots of inspiring stories from female engineers and discovered the varying types of engineering roles they do and how they got into engineering.

54 of our Year 8 students had a fabulous trip to the Big Bang Science exhibition at the Birmingham NEC this week.

Yesterday the winners of our competition to design new House badges met with Matt from Bara Studio to begin transforming their brilliant ideas to professional designs. The students enjoyed a workshop packed full of industry insights and creative tips. Watch this space for the final designs.

We had our whole school Pentecost Service last week. A real celebration of our global diversity. We said the Lords Prayer in French and all students from year 7 to year 10 participated in the Eucharist. Thank you to Canon Dan Tyndall for his sermon at his last service with us.

The amazing Year 7 and 8 students at SMRT have got the school's best ever results in the Junior Maths Challenge! A whopping 85 students achieved a Gold, Silver or Bronze, including 16 Golds, with 6 students through to the next round!
Huge congratulations, and we wish each of them all the best.

On Wednesday night we held our ‘Community Prayer Night’. We prayed for all the new year 7 students who will be joining us in September. We also prayed for all year 11 and year 13 students sitting exams. Thank you for praying for our students we know it makes a difference.

On Monday and Tuesday this week all year 7 and 8 had a presentation about Fairtrade. We had a visiting speaker (Rosibel) from Nicaragua who spoke about her life as a coffee farmer and how she lives and works. We were all challenged to make sure that we look for the Fairtrade logo when buying food.

Year 11 had their ‘shirt-signing’ afternoon on Thursday. Although they are still onsite every day until the end of term, we know that we will miss them once their exams finish! Lots of mixed emotions for all!

On Wednesday we hosted Mr Dave Cohen. He is a BAFTA Award winner, most famous for writing many of the songs featured in the BBC TV series, Horrible Histories. He spoke to year 7 about songwriting, his career and even got them all to sing along! It was a lot of fun for staff and students!
