I've spent the past few months thinking with so many people's beautiful work, and I'm honored to share it more widely.

There are two city maps with various city blocks and other features partially cut out, a utility knife, a highlighter, and a pile of paper scraps on a white work surface.

A filing error put more than 90,000 acres of Yakama Nation land in the hands of Washington state More than 170 years later, the Yakama are still trying to get their land back.

Sometimes our government’s racism looks like incompetence and indifference. Because a federal clerk filed a treaty map under the wrong letter, Yakama Nation lost over 90,000 acres to Washington State. Now, the tribe wants it back. grist.org/indigenous/s...

"to listen for the creek when it is covered by concrete necessitates that we reach beyond thinking of a creek as something which exists in and of itself, in isolation."

Appreciate this challenge.

One observation is the starting premise: "At our school, we practice restorative justice". As @nbedera.bsky.social noted, participation in this process must be voluntary. However, what actually feels voluntary to K-8 students in a traditional school environment?

I have been witnessing how restorative justice is being taught and talked about at the K-8 grade level. It's been a messy and difficult process. @nbedera.bsky.social articulates the pitfalls I've observed.

As I say over and over again, dams were designed for the climate of the past. Yet there are over 3,000 new large dams in the works globally. With increasingly severe droughts and floods, we need to pivot completely to other renewable sources of power.

It’s NEPA. He’s talking about a court finding that CEQ’s regs for NEPA were never actually regs but only guidances, non-mandatory.

Guess what the entire architecture of mitigation in all federal programs rests on? 1979 CEQ regulations, now possibly just guidance. 1/2
