A poster with details for an art exhibition called "Cut / Paste". It runs from June 2 - October 31, 2025 in the Geography Department on the fourth floor of Cramer Hall at Portland State University. The opening reception was on Wednesday, June 4 from 4:30 - 6:30 pm. The poster also lists the names of 22 artists, and shows three map collages.

I've spent the past few months thinking with so many people's beautiful work, and I'm honored to share it more widely.

One observation is the starting premise: "At our school, we practice restorative justice". As @nbedera.bsky.social noted, participation in this process must be voluntary. However, what actually feels voluntary to K-8 students in a traditional school environment?

I have been witnessing how restorative justice is being taught and talked about at the K-8 grade level. It's been a messy and difficult process. @nbedera.bsky.social articulates the pitfalls I've observed.

I agree. What these cases show is the willingness of the court to uphold morally and ethically dubious decisions.

This whole thread is worth reading, this bit in particular. In my limited understanding, Korematsu v. United States and Ex parte Endo didn't really resolve the constitutionality of exclusion/incarceration (this should never have been a question). Ganbatte.
