Maybe but only after their alliance broke down and East Germany was hardly a great result.

Yes but US involvement was important.

In recent years, Bilbao has quietly built a cycling network shaped by lessons from the Netherlands: calmed where it can be, protected where it must be, and always comfortable and connected.

The result? You can now pedal across the city on infrastructure made for everyoneβ€”not just the fit and brave.

The small wheels allow the bike to fold into a remarkably small package with oily bits inside.
Pity that small =/= light.

I love the war on cars hosts’ observation that a car is a rather large and heavy rain jacket, and same is true for trucks: they are rather large and heavy panniers

Sounds like a good reason to stick with brake cables.
Not keen to rely on things that I can't fix or replace.

Didn't the Duke of Wellington say much the same about battles ?

You presumably mean financially but having the best armaments also helps in winning so it works the other way.

This is really the only right choice. When spaced properly, these racks offer ease of utility for all bike types and nearly all abilities of riders.

Square tubing is best to prevent the use of pipe cutters and sunken bolts rather than exposed offers more security.

I said "can be claimed" . Yes questionable but there is a difference to cold blooded murder.

Not really. The Nazis arrested peaceful individuals based on dubious ethnicity and killed them in prison.
Gaza is happening in response to a violent attack and civilian deaths can be claimed to be an inadvertent side effect of eliminating Hamas.
At what stage ......

At 11 I was bus + walk to a school 5 miles away. So were all my schoolmates. Why are kids today so wimpy ?

There would, of course, be no issue with signs opposing genocide.
Supporting a proscribed organisation is the problem.

Careful what you wish for. Under FPTP the Commons can be controlled by a party with minority support. A second chamber is a useful brake as it was under Johnson.

If they had the Tories would have got their majority earlier.
Better to restrain while you have some time power.

To be exact all parties at the time were talking of severe cuts. Only in retrospect are we seeing claims that you could go on spending despite the collapse of tax intake from financial services.

Today's by-election is another illustration of the problems with FPTP.

The result may tell us less about what voters want to happen than whether they can game the system effectively to stop a result most *don't* want.

The electoral system should not be an obstacle that voters have to work around.

If you have the opportunity a visit to st Salvin sur Gartemps a few miles east is another highlight.

Your friendly reminder that the solution to the majority of bike/pedestrian safety concerns is not another workshop, seminar, public outreach but a DESIGNATED INFRASTRUCTURE.

Bike lanes are car infrastructure

I think probably the one misconception that bothers me about bike lanes is that people assume they are for those who bike...when really they are for those who are too scared to bike.

Traffic levels on Magdalen Bridge have fallen by 13% and on Folly Bridge by 14% since the introduction of Oxford’s congestion charge, according to the latest data. The year-on-year changes also saw drops on Banbury Road, Marston Ferry Road and Thames Street, with rises of 0%–6% on the ring road.
