Republicans in the 1980s weren't all like Jim Sensenbrenner. A lot were pro ERA and codifying Roe, which we could and should have done with that supermajority in Congress when Obama was President. And pro civil rights too. It got deeply split in Clinton's reign of dangerous mediocre neoliberal crap.
