Much less time in the field for me in 2025 but it ended on a high when this white-morph Snow Goose appeared among the local Whooper Swan flock on Christmas Eve. Seemingly wedded to the swans having presumably arrived with them in the autumn …

I don’t twitch either, but as a patch birder I find it really useful for seeing what’s going on nationally. For example, when species such as Black Terns or waders are moving in the spring. Definitely don’t need to be a twitcher to get plenty out of it.

Based on the sole image seems to be the candida group from the Pacific and Indian Oceans (stout bill with a blueish base) - the record from Bermuda was also of this group #Ornithology #UKBirding @samviles.bsky.social

A rare opportunity in the gloom of Sunday morning to see three scarce Aythya species side by side at Tallington Lakes in South Lincs. One of those patch pinch-me moments! @lincsbirding.bsky.social

Black-throated Diver, Baston Gravel Pits, Lincolnshire, 20 November 2024

This Black-throated Diver at Baston Pits on 20 November was a special bird for me. As well as a patch tick, it was my 200th species of 2024 in the Peterborough Bird Club recording area – a milestone that I hoped to reach but didn't realistically think would be doable inland! @birdguides.bsky.social

Nice! Would be interesting to know where those wigeon have come from. Love how quickly birds find these places.
