i finished the halloween special after thanksgiving...

welp, time to disappear for all of december! ♥

Danielle whispers to herself, "Of course... Cameras can see ghosts... Of course... Of course this place is haunted."

Sun can't believe this. "WHAT?!" He blurts out, throwing his arms out on either side of himself as he leans back in disbelief, before whipping his disc-shaped head around to look behind himself and say "She's right--!"

With a shot of the daycare from Sun's perspective, we see that his new little friend is nowhere to be seen, not even by the daycare attendant. "Wha--? Alice?"

Concerned, Sun steps into frame, his back to us as he calls out to no one. "Where did you go, little friend? I promise you're not in trouble!"

Back to Danielle, we see that she is still shaken by what she's seen and heard from Sun, holding onto her wrist with her lip quivering and eyes obscured. Meanwhile, Sun continues to cast his voice across the daycare, out of our sight. "We just want to help!"

Danielle holds the phone away from herself slightly in disbelief, her hands shaking and voice quivering, she whispers, "There's..." And Sun asks, "Did you get the picture? Can you search for her sign-in forms now?"

A pair of text bubbles (one for Danielle and one for Sun) read, "It... Detected a face..." and "Yes~?" respectively.

From over Sun's shoulder, we see a comparatively tiny Danielle tapping at her phone screen, eyes obscured by her glasses at this angle. She says, "But there's..."

From over Sun's shoulder, we see Danielle holding up her phone for him - though it's too far away for us to see - and she says, "There's no one there." Her hands tremble as she draws one closer to her chest, and she looks up at Sun with fear, not for him, but whatever her phone has captured.

From behind Sun again, we look down at Danielle, who's biting her lip and avoiding looking at the large animatronic in front of her, with her hand still in her pocket. Sun stands up again, but slouches just slightly, with his hands pressed against each other in a pleading gesture. "Now PLEASE, can you check the physical copies?"

Sun continues, "Regardless of whether she snuck in or not--" But showing she understands now, Danielle interrupts with a nervous smile, holding up her phone for him to see. "Of course, Sun. I'll just need a picture of her face."

From Dani's perspective, we watch her zoom in with her phone's camera, getting a closer look at the tables Sun was showing her, thinking "It's way too late in the year for April Fools, Sunny..." to herself as her phone's camera focuses a little faint box around one of the child-sized chairs.

After taking the picture, we move out of Dani's perspective to see her looking to one side, thinking "He wouldn't hurt me just because I didn't fall for this... right?" Before cutting off her own thoughts by looking back down at her phone's screen.

Danielle's concern builds, her expression showing just that as Sun continues. "She needs to be picked up by a parent or guardian before closing time!"

Though Sun is the focus, we can see just over his shoulder that indeed, there is still no one sitting at any of the tables. "Unless her file is corrupted, I'm not seeing any sign-in for her." Sun says, pointing at himself with all 10 of his fingers.

Crouching now and continuing to talk with his hands, Sun smacks one of his knife hands into the palm of the other, trying extra hard to convey the severity of the situation while saying, "We need to call her parents, since it's almost time for the daycare to close!"

"She must be very scared!" Sun insists, as we see Danielle pulling something rectangular out of her pocket.

Danielle looks up at Sun with brows drawn together in concern, answering slowly with a patient smile. "Sun, there's... There's nobody there. Is this a prank?"

Sun stands upright, eerily still as Danielle continues, "I didn't even know you were capable--"

Sun interrupts her, scream-whispering, "WHAT DO YOU MEAN?! I'm being serious!!!" as he leans closer to her - and by proxy, the viewer - with his knife-hands held up beside his face.

Sun swipes his knife-hands down to be horizontal, getting into Danielle's personal space as he continues explaining. "Can't you hear her crying?! Professor, I don't know how she got in, but it's getting late!" His face less than a foot from hers, Dani takes a surprised step back, keeping her eyes on him, pulling her binder close to her chest as if that would protect her heart.

Back in the real world, Danielle tilts her head and quirks a brow, looking up at him. "What child, Sun? Didn't the last one leave a minute or two ago?"

Sun tilts his head back at her, but it's exaggerated, and he brings his hands in front of himself, touching the pinkies together. "Yes, that was the last child On The List, but there is still one more!"

"Sitting at the table?" Sun finishes, gesturing with a hand. We see that hand from Danielle's perspective, looking just over Sun's hand to the table in question... but all the tables in the daycare are empty. There are a few ballpit balls on the playmats and a candy is on the floor and one of the chairs is knocked over, but the daycare is empty, save for the attendant and his technician.

With a shot from behind Sun, we see Danielle leaning to one side to get a good look at what Sun wants her to see, but there is no child. She looks up at him, then back to the table, then back at him, looking for something as he continues talking. "I don't know how or when she got in, but she wasn't part of any headcounts throughout the day." He says, head still tilted, gesturing with both hands now.

Looking past the departing assistant with her backpack pulled over her shoulder, we see Sun pointing behind him and above him, to the upper level of the daycare where the entrance and sign-in podium are. He asks Danielle, looming over her slightly, and she has to lean back to meet his eyes. "Professor, can you ask Mrs. Holly about an unchecked guest named Alice?"

"Also when she got here. I, uh, can't find her in the system." Danielle holds a binder close to her chest, looking up at Sun, slightly bewildered, but hearing him out. The camera shifts to behind Sun's head, and we look down at Danielle with him as he asks Moon again in their mind about requesting a check. "Maybe I should ask for help with our scanners. We should be able to tell if this child is in the system on our own by now."

We get a shot of mindscape-Moon again, arms still folded, brow still furrowed, eyes rolling as he responds to Sun. "As if our regular maintenance wasn't invasive enough."

Moon: "It's way too soon to trust her with something like that."

We get a shot from the little girl's perspective now, and Sun sits on the ground across from the viewer, rapid firing questions with his chin in his hands. "I haven't seen you around before! When did you get here? Can you tell me your name?"

Now we get a shot from Sun's perspective, as he reaches his hands out across the table as if to hold the child's face in his hands. The child looks worried, and he doesn't make contact yet. It looks like she's been wiping her tears messily. "Oh please don't be sad! What's got you covered in so many dark clouds?" Sun asks.

Zooming in to Sun's face as he continues talking, we can see just past him and between his rays, back over to Danielle and one of the daycare assistants as Sun offers more comfort. "Maybe Mr. Sun can brighten up your day?" With a little "that's me!" under his breath.

Stepping away from the late arrival, we look between the technician and the daycare assistant saying goodbye to see Sun approaching carefully, holding up one finger toward Danielle, wordlessly asking for a moment of her time.

Back in the mindscape, Moon continues, arms still folded, but more relaxed and bored with an expression to match. "What? She probably snuck in, and now she's scared she'll be in trouble. Which is a correct assessment."

Moon, waving his hand around in a circle dismissively concedes. "I guess if you want..."

Not wasting another second, Sun responds, "I do! We can't just ignore a crying child! Registered guest or not!" and starts making his way over to said crying child, putting on his playful and cheery persona, taking big exaggerated steps and waving with both hands. The self-diagnostic scan continues; "Pressure Sensors: Online, 100%. Temperature Sensors: Online, 100%."

Sun declares, "We'll figure out the rest later." in one last message to Moon for this topic, before addressing the little girl directly, his showmanship all being concentrated on this one little kid. "Hello!!! New friend!" he says, taking one particularly large step toward the opposite side of the table from her, his hands curled into loose fists in front of his chest. The scan continues, "Proximity Sensors: Online, 100%. Voice Synthesizer: Online, 100%"

Back in the daycare, we get a shot of the daycare attendant's face, Sun awaiting the results of the scan with his head tilted down, relaxed and resigned, thinking "Right."

"Still!" He starts, lifting his head as if he suddenly thought of something. The scan showing "Visual input: Online. Functioning 100%"

Clenching his fists as tight (as his plastic plating will let him) in front of his chest, Sun decides "I should see if there's anything I can do for her!" But Moon is skeptical. "And what about when the daycare closes?" Moon asks, as the scan continues. "Audio input: Online. Functioning 100%"

Moon continues. "I mean, if she's not in the system, she's not our responsibility--" "Moon!!!" Sun interrupts, incredulous.

Back in the mindscape, Moon holds up his hands in front of himself, a hesitant expression on his AI representative's face. "No, don't, just..." he starts.

"We can run a self-diagnostic scan." Moon says, typing away at the mindscape's control panel keyboard.

With the scan started, AI Moon folds his arms in front of his chest, furrowing his brow as he watches the view finder through their shared eyes. Sun, looking worried, allows this, keeping mostly quiet.

Moon notices, and asks, "Wait, what's wrong with our scanners?" as Sun's AI representation squints hard at the view port, leaning forward and gripping the guardrails around the control pedestal.

Back to Sun in the real world, he balances himself on his toes and begins to stand, answering Moon. "I dunno!"

"We were fine..." he thinks at Moon, touching his eyes as if to wipe away some dust.

Sun turns his head to look toward the security desk, removing his hand from his face and spying Danielle, his technician, saying goodbye to a daycare assistant. "I might need some... help."

the camera looks over sun's shoulder, seeing what he sees, namely a little girl crying by herself as she sits at one of those thick-legged hallow plastic tables for children. sun worriedly calls for moon in the mindscape, saying, "Uhh...! Moon?!"

Sun continues talking to his other half, taking a hesitant step toward the child before stopping himself and crouching down, still a far distance away. "Why is there still one child left? Who... Who is that?"

Moon answers, shocked. "HUH?? When did she get here?" The child continues to cry, thick tears rolling down her face. Sun admits, "I dunno..."

"She wasn't in any of our headcounts for today." Sun says, attempting to scan the lone child's face, as she looks up to meet his gaze, but his scan turns up with nothing. 'Face detected. Name: Unknown. Age: Unknown. Temp: N/A. Heartrate: N/A.'
