Access to safe and adequate housing is one of the most immediate needs of people returning to Syria.
Access to housing, land and property is a key area of work to make the return sustainable.
@unhcr.org is scaling up its legal aid program and supports capacity building of the Cadastral Offices.
Today, Paris will host a meeting of governments and donors to discuss the urgent need for international support to Syria in the post-Assad transition.

270,000 Syrian refugees returned home since the fall of the Assad regime.
According to our latest survey on return intentions, many more plan to return in the next year.
Major obstacles to return include: available housing, property rights, safety, access to basic services, economic challenges.

We arrived in Syria through the border with Lebanon with Filippo Grandi @unhcr.org.
We met Qasem and his daughter, who had just crossed the border to return home.
Qasem was a refugee for 12 years. He told us that he now feels safe to return and wants to rebuild his life in his country.
