28.02.2026 23:49 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0this is great info! Thanks so much! Yes we'd let the translator put the brackets wherever they want in the string, and whatever they want inside as well (even an entire sentence).
25.02.2026 23:20 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0or do you think most translators would just prefer two string fields (or more for they?) for gender?
25.02.2026 22:54 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0
gotcha that is very useful! Would markup like this be useful to translators:
English source: You are very powerful!
Spanish translation: Eres muy [poderoso/poderosa]!
And then the game would replace the [x/y] corresponding to the player gender selection?
To anybody who happens to play games in French or Spanish (or other heavily gendered languages): How does an NPC typically address gender of player avatar? Like in an RPG where you pick gender, do NPCs use gendered adjectives, or do they sort of weasel around it? And is it strange for players?
25.02.2026 21:48 — 👍 4 🔁 1 💬 1 📌 0Yes casting emails were sent. Thank you for auditioning! Even for seasoned pros it's a low chance affair for these kinds of projects. We had 1100+ VAs send in about 8500 auditions.

Art is human expression and makes us feel stuff. Yet, while AI threatens to destroy the arts, the overwhelming feeling any given piece of AI art makes us feel...
is catfished.
so this episode really resonated with me! There's also this idea from gamers that a successful game == "game I personally liked". I see tons of discussions on reddit about "why No Man's Sky failed"... that's when I learned many players' view of "success" is completely alien to mine lol
17.12.2025 06:13 — 👍 2 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0Re: players vs devs idea of success: I did a postmortem YT vid for Eastshade that got enough views to pierce the mainstream, and there are hundreds of comments from people saying "no way this game was successful. I've never heard of it and it only had X concurrent players".
17.12.2025 06:09 — 👍 3 🔁 0 💬 2 📌 0what wonderful positive advancements AI is making for humanity. Just positive after positive.
03.12.2025 23:07 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0Yes I have! Very curious about the game, especially how much RPG it will have in it!
03.12.2025 22:39 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0rofl thank you for assuming the more positive definition. Oh no way I'd be honored! I'd pop on in a heartbeat! My sleep schedule is usually effed enough to comfortably chat with europeans too 😅

And I love how when it's wrong it's not wrong like a random person on the internet is wrong. It's like "yes gasoline is a great substitute for butter when making cookies!" levels of wrong.
02.12.2025 23:05 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0I guess some part of us wants bad games to be the result of ethical deficiency. We want to somehow tie bad products to bad people. It's upsetting to play something we didn't like, especially when we had high hopes for it. Maybe it's an uncomfortable idea that good people can try hard and still miss?
02.12.2025 22:53 — 👍 5 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0I wish people wouldn't use moralized language in games criticism. People like to use words like "lazy" or "stupid", not just to crit the work but to sate some desire to crit the character of its author(s). Not sure why something in us wants this. But it seems to be human nature.

25.11.2025 22:08 — 👍 9 🔁 0 💬 4 📌 0oh absolutely! Having a streamer friendly game is definitely a viable path. That method can attract lots of content creators. But lots of indies have this idea that if just one big streamer played their game the magical dam would break and they'd blast off.
