The juxtaposition of Jupiter and Venus (centre of pic) was quite prominent in the eastern sky early this morning before dawn. I took the photo handheld with my iPhone, which apparently now uses image stabilization. The trees were lit by the near-full moon.

The hidden impacts of clear-cut logging, revealed
YouTube video by The Narwhal The hidden impacts of clear-cut logging, revealed

I just watched the film Trouble in the Headwaters about how flooding in BC is directly related to clear-cut logging and enhanced by climate change. It’s a very effective film in getting its point across, and applies to many other places besides BC.

There are many ways Trump could trigger a global collapse. Here’s how to survive if that happens | George Monbiot It could be wildfires, a pandemic or a financial crisis. The super-rich will flee to their bunkers – the rest of us will have to fend for ourselves, writes columnist George Monbiot

Interesting Guardian article about a possible collapse that Trump and his henchmen could be causing as a result of the illegal assaults on regulations and the closing of key agencies and firings of key personnel.

How changing catch-and-release fishing practices can boost salmon survival Changes may be as simple as using smaller hooks, avoiding landing nets and handling fish as little as possible.

I've always had a problem with Catch-and-Release fishing when one is not harvesting fish. As this article explains, salmon might be particularly prone to die in these days of climate change, warm and reduced waters:

Cop28 is a farce rigged to fail, but there are other ways we can try to save the planet | George Mon... Inaction and self-interest are built into climate summits. Instead, we need a voting system that can’t be subverted by fossil fuel producers, says Guardian columnist George Monbiot

The always entertaining COP conferences are becoming more farcical with every iteration. COP 28, hosted by a petrostate and an executive of an oil company, it is more of a trade show for the petroleum industry and its opponents than a meeting to solve a crisis.
