Trumpโ€™s Republicans expect air traffic controllers to work for free while they keep the government shut down

Air traffic controllers were already working excessive overtime, under staffed & struggle to get people to stay in the job

Iโ€™m shocked. Shocked I tell you.

Shocked to learn that the screaming man waving a chainsaw who promised to smash the very government he wanted to be President over is having an economic crisis & that the orange coloured man who shut down the government he presides over is bailing him out.

Shocked.

Today is a day when arts degrees are worthless, but the product of those degrees is so valuable it would kill an entire industry if they were made to pay for it.

Labor retains big lead in Newspoll and all other federal polls

The latest federal opinion polling has put Labor clearly ahead of the struggling Liberals. Support for One Nation is stronger than for the Greens in some results.

In a world where techlords rule us by whim, Australiaโ€™s stance against deepfakes is reason to celebrate | Van Badham Could courage be contagious? Letโ€™s hope so, because in the absence of powerful regulation, the normalisation of awful blooms A man who posted non-consensual, pornified โ€œdeepfakeโ€ images of Australian women has been ordered to pay $343,500 in civil penalties for doing so by a federal court. Everyone, everywhere, should be thrilled by this decision. What Anthony Rotondo did by uploading these images was perpetrate โ€œimage-based abuseโ€ against his victims. For those playing along The USA is now at the Horst Wessel stage of rising fascism:
Autocratic regime is behind in polls
Institutions caving to financial threats
Idolatry of grifters
โ€œUsโ€ and โ€œthemโ€ shifts to regime loyalists vs pro-democracy
Corporations start to suffer despite pledges of loyalty

Van Badham:
Australians, stick it on your fridge, give thanks every day.
This is why Australia will never have a Trump. While there is a trace of infectious MAGA-style extremism, as there is everywhere, it can never dominate. (Add in a strong union movement and The Labor Party). #democracyvaccine

Facebook post text - I received an honest question from an American reader: "Why do (Australians) care about the domestic politics of the USA?"; this is my answer:
"We care because 521 of our sons died in Vietnam, following the US to war as your loyal ally - just as we followed in Korea, Afghanistan, and Iraq (twice).
"We care because the US has military bases on our soil that are nuclear targets.
"We care because our retirement funds are heavily invested in
American companies.
"We care because America has set the terms of international trade that we, as a smaller power, have been obliged to heed.
"We care because the United States communicates in English, and we mostly consume our news in English, and engage social media platforms in English, and watch movies and TV and read books in English, and get exposed to English-language propaganda.
"We care because Americans built the internet as an expression of American values - and to be capable of retaining our own cultural sovereignty, it is crucial for us to interrogate those values... and consider where they may lead."

If youโ€™re in โ€œfinancial stressโ€ donโ€™t buy guns. Donโ€™t โ€œsubscribeโ€ to Twitter. Donโ€™t speed. When youโ€™re caught speeding pay the fine in instalments
Donโ€™t wrack up more court costs by representing yourself against a valid charge. Thereโ€™s so many other, better, ways to change than blaming everyone else

If your the kind of person who wants to get out of a speeding fine using internet tips instead of calling the number to work out a payment plan youโ€™re a problematic person for society
You place your own ego above justice & your own โ€œwealthโ€ above proper social services.

โ€œFinancial stressโ€ and โ€œfrustrationโ€ are present in everyoneโ€™s life.
Cookers create financial stress for themselves and other people because, for the most part, they are less financially successful than others in their family. Even relatively well off cookers are usually less so than their parents.

Giving their conspiracies a platform to wrap their delusions in a false equivalence to free speech is disgraceful

The idea of inflicting a 90s summer on children makes me anxious. Mainly because I was there | Van Badham Itโ€™s easy to see why some on TikTok are yearning for this kind of nostalgia. But as someone who lived through it, hereโ€™s why thatโ€™s a bad idea A recent piece in US publication the Cut has picked up on a curious sentiment seen floating around TikTok; public yearning to recreate a โ€œ90s summerโ€. One can see the temptation of nostalgia for Americans, given the present theyโ€™re trapped in โ€“ and, perhaps, the El Salvadoran gulag theyโ€™re trapped in โ€“ is hardly so rosy. But as bombers fly over Tehran and their out-of-his-depth president handles a fragile situation by swearing at Benjamin Netanyahu on TV, itโ€™s worth asking if the promptings of nostalgia may be what got us all into this mess in the first place. We should tax billionaires the same way they become โ€œbillionairesโ€

By taxing the unrealised gains that make up their vast โ€œwealthโ€

If you can use it for leverage to borrow more & become mega rich then we can tax it to redistribute resources where they are needed

Unless youโ€™re already a billionaire, supporting public policy ideas from billionaires will not make you a billionaire.

Itโ€™ll just keep you poor & billionaires rich.

You think Musk, Bezos, Murdoch & Gina are engaged in policy issues for the benefit of others?
