We warmly welcome yesterday's announcement of additional Government funding for culture and heritage, access to which makes us a healthier, happier and richer nation.

This is a step in the right direction, and we hope it is the first of many.

There can't be many other streets with as many listed buildings as 'The Mount' in York. The architecture is mainly from the early to mid nineteenth century. The street though has been or very near the main route running south and west from York from Roman times onwards.
