I've listened to several hours of speeches by Talarico and I was in Round Rock when he announced. Never heard any of these subjects raised. But Chris Rufo's world revolves around them.

it doesn’t take a whole lot to recognize that this is a vote that’s going to be hung around your neck for the rest of your careers

you can just not do it, it’s pretty easy actually

AOC: This is about actual crimes happening in front of us. This is about shredding the Constitution and plunging us into war. This is about taking crypto money and money laundering… So if you’re asking me if I’d support impeachment, I do

I’m not law enforcement but I am pretty sure they don’t like a civilian jumping into a use of force.

"Near the end of the negotiation the [department] offered to accept our current terms if we deleted a specific phrase about
'analysis of bulk acquired data' which was the single line in the contract that exactly matched this scenario we were most worried about. We found that very suspicious," wrote Amodei in a memo to staff on Friday, which was first reported by The Information on Wednesday and seen by the FT.
In the note, which is likely to complicate negotiations, Amodei wrote that much of the messaging from the Pentagon and OpenAI, which struck its own agreement with Hegseth on Friday, was "just straight up lies about these issues or tries to confuse them".
Amodei suggested Anthropic had been frozen out because "we haven't given dictator-style praise to Trump" in contrast to OpenAI chief Sam Altman.

the conventional wisdom a year ago was that trump was untouchable on immigration and indomitable with independents and democrats shouldn't even talk about the issue

Many Americans hold contradictory opinions on the same policies Our new poll finds question wording can swing opinion by 20+ points on immigration, the budget, and transgender rights. That's a problem for people who use polls to tell politicians what voters want.

Finally got to @gelliottmorris.com's piece this week on how poll question wording dramatically affects responses. It's excellent. This is classic stuff in the political behavior subfield of poli sci, but we don't hear enough about it in punditry.

Today I chatted with someone who emigrated to the U.S. from Soviet Moscow. Among the stories she told, when she a college student she failed classes because she refused to adopt communist party orthodoxy in her assignments.

This is a post about Texas and Florida.

How Florida's domestic terrorism bills could affect student speech Florida lawmakers are considering bills to define 'domestic terrorist'. Free speech advocates warn this could chill campus speech. Here's how.

This bill would let Florida officials label organizations and individuals "domestic terrorists" through a "guilt by designation" process that could be weaponized against those criticizing the government.

Florida state senators must protect our constitutional rights and reject this dangerous bill.

The year is 2015. Pete Hegseth recklessly hits a man on live TV with a throwing ax.

The year is 2019. Pete Hegseth declares he hasn't washed his hands in 10 years and doesn't believe in germs.

The year is 2026. Pete Hegseth, now with the power of the U.S. military at his fingertips...

The Century-Long Capture of U.S. Media | On the Media | WNYC Studios As media empires, from The Washington Post to CBS News, continue to be dealt significant blows, uncertainties abound about the remaining strength of a once robust American press lands...

Worth a listen: The indefatigable @victorpickard.bsky.social @onthemedia.bsky.social putting the current state of U.S. media in historical perspective. Re-regulated away from public interest.

The capture is extreme: capitalistic, oligarchical, and authoritarian.

Vance Says He Never Apologized to Cardinal Dolan. Dolan Says He Did Dolan told EWTN that Vance admitted his attacks on bishops were β€œout of line” and β€œnot true.” Vance tells the Washington Post he said something very different.

NEW: JD Vance’s clash with Pope Leo XIV and the Catholic Church is escalating.

On CBS, he accused Catholic bishops of supporting immigration because it β€œmakes them money.”

Cardinal Dolan later said on EWTN that Vance apologized.

Now Vance tells the Washington Post that apology never happened.

This is the point. If your vaunted trillion-dollar military can't get through a few days of airstrikes because you've consolidated the industrial base so badly, then you don't have a trillion-dollar military, you just have contractors in No. Virginia getting rich

this is one of the key thing i keep hammering to detractors. you want to shame people for not paying attention to the nuances of the news. most people just do not have the time. theyre at work 9-5, taking care of kids, making family dinner, trying to have a smidge of downtime.

A Running Count of How Many People ICE Has Killed and Injured - The American Prospect ICE is not required to report any use-of-force incidents against the public. So The American Prospect created our own running tally.

We updated our record of people immigration agents have killed or caused to die since Trump took office in January 2025.

As of today, agents have killed at least 28 people in the field and 48 people in custody.

It is wild to me that DOGE/Musk could dismantle so much of the government in just a few months from a combination of anti-regulatory personal greed and fascism-tinged stupidity and no one will ever face any consequence for it.

The entire anti-trans care grift is built in treating the usual way medicine works as if it's a scandal.

Therapists figure out if a kid is trans the same way they figure out if they're depressed. They ask questions, maybe using a formal scale to quantify how kids compare to similar kids.

If you want proof that today's right wingers are all baby shit soft, this absolutely perfect line reading from Crazy People (a very problematic but fucking funny movie about the ad industry) was met with resounding laughter by white people in the theater in 1990 and that was the end of it

One would think "Therapists and doctors are telling kids they're trans" and "Therapists and doctors are listening to kids who say they're trans" would be completely opposed stances, until you realize what they both have in common is "Trans kids are being permitted to exist"

Paramount Skydance expected to win regulatory battles as DOJ probes WBD deal The approval process will likely be long and cumbersome, which could impact how quickly the company can realize synergies and growth opportunities.

I think this gets at something that BlueSky misses. The problem with Platner is not that he’s a secret conservative, or a Fetterman. The problem is he’s antisemitic. One can be on the left and not particularly care if Jews are harmed or discriminated against. In fact it can be politically useful.
