Spotted a mushroom a couple of weeks ago in Dawyck Botanic Gardens (Shot 1)and tentatively identified it as a Blue spot knight (Tricholoma columbetta). Wanted to check it as it aged before posting it.

This is the same specimen as shot one taken today and blue tinged areas can now be seen on the stem and the cap.

Again the bluing can be seen on the cap on the other specimen found nearby. So happy to stick my neck out on the ID. Happy to be corrected if I have this wrong.

Blackening waxcaps (Hygrocybe conica) aka Witch's Hat go through a number of stages. Bright orange/red when first emerged.

Stems sometimes blacken before the cap does.

Or sometimes the cap blackens before the stem.

Eventually they all go full-on Goth though.

The large mushroom on the right is deformed. The stem has bent as it grew forcing the cap down onto the ground.

The result is a unique horizontal view of the gills on the underside of the cap where the veil has torn away for the cap edge.
