This is just a normal console cycle. If anything, Switch also has had the longest console cycle of all despite how weak it is.
At some point, you gotta move on, like we have for every console since the 90s. (Switch has the benefit of having a huge library and staying power at least.)

It’s the same thing they did with the 3DS when the Switch came out. Support it for another 1-2 years before moving full development to Switch.
I feel like anyone expecting them to continue to develop mainline titles for Switch 1 still are waaaaay in over their heads.
