Christmas is not our excuse, it's our reminder to keep our loved ones close, forgive and ask for forgiveness, regardless of religion or discipline (it's a human thing, not a christian thing).

I listening to Christmas carols in a little pain (don't worry, minor setback, I 'll be fine) and thinking that small misfortunes come intermixed with small pleasures in life. So try to remember that and hope for the best no matter what you are dealing with.

Some folks view SNMP for monitoring as others view the CLI for network device admin/config. Same feelings and struggle.SNMP really starts to fall apart when trying to create custom event handling. It's where you start hating the data model, the vendors and your life.

I operate the same way for all the internal tooling I have set up so far for the last few years.
Nagios was the one inviting the devil in (for monitoring ip-sla via snmp), so it's on its way out. Containerizing that mess is where I drew the line.
