Shrewsbury's high street has been ranked as one of the best in Britain with lots of thriving independent shops.

Personally I find difficult to paint in urban spaces because of traffic fumes. The pedestrianisation in Shrewsbury really is a game-changer for artists. Having that window from 10am to 4pm transforms the town centre from a transit route into an open-air studio.

Shrewsbury shares that European "market town" DNA, but France truly elevated the daily ritual of fresh produce into an art form. It is lovely to observe French people (on foot, a bicycle or in a car) rushing to get freshly made baguettes. I miss smell of freshly made bread.

Shrewsbury is essentially a living museum, preserved within a tight loop of the River Severn. I am glad that the sketch reflects that

Fish Street sits in the heart of #Shrewsbury,marking the area where medieval fishmongers once sold their produce. The two oak‑framed cottages here were once destined for demolition to make way for the soulless architecture 70s. Australia is the new home for this painting. #ShrewsburyArt #FishStreet

Our years of visiting Cornwall while our daughter studied there gave us a deep appreciation for its coastline. It is home to some of the most beautiful small fishing towns in the UK, each with a unique character that kept us coming back.
