Rubio reveals US launched strikes against Iran because of planned Israeli attack Top diplomat says US understood its assets would be hit by Iran in retaliation for a preemptive Israeli strike, even though Jerusalem seen as unlikely to have acted without Trump's blessing

Marco Rubio literally said they joined the war bc they knew Israel was going to attack Iran regardless and they felt they had no choice but to join and protect their own assets. www.timesofisrael.com/rubio-reveal...

Left-liberal infighting has historically not been a constructive force in countering the rise of fascism, we gotta work together or we all die alone

If all other criticisms of capitalism lacked any grounding whatsoever, the simple fact that superbillionaires can purchase elections to destroy democracy and enrich themselves at the public’s expense would still hold

And like, I agree that it would be much much better if the president couldn’t just initiate wars by himself, the constitution says that power belongs to the legislature, but I’m not getting the sense from him that he’s seeking to prevent war here so much as to just do it better (for us, not them!)

Chuck Schumer @SenSchumer
When I talked to Secretary Rubio, I implored him to be straight with Congress and the American people about the objectives of these strikes and what comes next. Iran must never be allowed to attain a nuclear weapon but the American people do not want another endless and costly war in the Middle East when there are so many problems at home.
The administration has not provided Congress and the American people with critical details about the scope and immediacy of the threat.
Confronting Iran's malign regional activities, nuclear ambitions, and harsh oppression of the Iranian people demands American strength, resolve, regional coordination, and strategic clarity. Unfortunately, President Trump's fitful cycles of lashing out and risking wider conflict are not a viable strategy.
The administration must brief Congress, including an immediate all senators classified briefing and in public testimony, to answer these vital questions. The Senate should quickly return to session and reassert its constitutional duty by passing our resolution to enforce the War Powers Act.
My prayers are with our brave American servicemembers.

Here’s a tweet he put out this morning. His greatest concern is that Congress ought to be the ones to declare war, not that the war ought to be stopped. Nowhere in here does he indicate that he would vote against such a declaration of war, he doesn’t even say β€œI’ll vote no unless X, Y, and Z.”

I think the doc that life in wisconsin posted in reply and my follow-up analysis of it work as a fine source and interpretation. Do you want me to pull out a different statement? He always says that it’s important to confront and disempower the Iranian regime but using smarter strategists than Trump

This is a fair point and it does suck that congressional approval for war has just been entirely rejected for the past eighty years

β€œRegional coordination” is notably also being done via the joint US-Israeli attack, plus attacks on regional Iran-allied militias like Khataib Hezbollah. Trump is literally satisfying Schumer’s demands lol

FWIW Trump *did* offer objectives and strategies: air assaults to destroy Iran’s army & navy over about 2 weeks and pull out to allow Iranian people to overthrow the government.

That statement is saying that war with Iran is a good and ideal thing to do, but it ought to be more intelligently planned and put before Congress (which is controlled by GOP in both chambers and thus would automatically approve any such proposal from Trump). It’s not an anti-war statement.

The problem is that *you’re* an idiot who’s too lazy and incurious to learn what flirting looks like, or that your miserable self-hatred has made you stupid. The problem is certainly not that women are clueless jerks too dumb to effectively get what they want

I’m very tired of men saying it is epistemically impossible to determine if someone wants to screw them and then complaining that women aren’t being direct enough. It’s just another way to blame women for their own faults.

41. 10/11 A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms by George R. R. Martin (audiobook). Aegon is so funny LMAO I love him.
42. 10/12 Between Two Fires by Christopher Buehlman. 10/10 perfect dark fantasy novel, practically made for me, there is a depiction of Hell superior to Dante in this book
