Traffic is being held in place on northbound US 101 at the Santa Maria River Bridge after a traffic incident resulted in nails being spilled across the roadway. A sweeping operation is now underway. No estimate for re-opening the northbound lanes.

The US 101 southbound off-ramp at San Miguel Canyon Road in Prunedale will be closed today from 9 am to 3 pm for storm related emergency work. Caltrans will clean the area to minimize flooding onto the highway. Details will be provided if work continues beyond today.

FINAL UPDATE: Highway 1 has reopened between Ragged Point and Gorda. Crews were on scene at first light today to clear slide material from the roadway, which included a 5 ft. diameter boulder. Crews then inspected the remainder of the closure area before reopening the roadway.

A full reopening of Highway 1 near Moss Landing is set to go into effect on Sunday, January 19, at 5:00 pm. Travelers in the area are urged to be alert for emergency responders still on the scene. CHP will continue to have an active presence in the area.
