I am not Dr Jen Gunter. I am just adjacent to her, so imagine me next to Jen in this picture. I am American sugar to her Canadian spice. Retired tech executive, and now a magician.

(2/2) And that kind of public resistance seems contrary to how military commanders behave in general. I would think they would be more likely to disobey β€œwith all due respect Mr President” when a press conference is probably what is needed for this kind of resistance to be effective.

Thoughts?

The problem is even if several layers of military commanders resist and are relieved of duty, we may not know before the illegal order is finally executed. Doesn’t this kind of β€œcivil disobedience,” for lack of a better term, require visibility to be effective?

Per Heather Cox Richardson β€œIn a partisan twist, more than three in four people enrolled in ACA plans live in states Trump won in 2024.”

Hey MAGA fuckers. You voted to have your (& all of our) health insurance premiums skyrocket per Trumps β€œplan for a plan”.

Time to wake up from your fever dream.

Opinion | That Hegseth Speech Was Actually Pretty Good

www.nytimes.com/2025/10/07/o...

Sometimes it really isn’t necessary to present the contrarian view when that view is nothing but bullshit.

Antifa? Seriously, has anyone ever met someone from Antifa? It just goes to show these folks will tie themselves in knots to justify anything, even the illegal invasion of their own state.

You need to repeat this point more often. I know it’s frustrating. But I have been following you for awhile and it’s clear you aren’t in denial of what is happening, but you are being specific about terms. However, I didn’t know why. I just figured you were being the very particular professor guy

My wife writes about menopause among other women’s health topics. Guess what, some new women are just starting that journey today. You have to suck it up and more frequently point them to the old stuff or commit to re-explaining it once in a while. It’s not their fault they are only finding you now.

Except a lot of people, tech bros for instance, think their expertise in one area that made them a fortune ( in many cases they were hit by the lucky stick) makes them knowledgeable about things like public policy or economics that they don’t understand at all.

Another very special level is needed for:

I studied X for years and found that ignoring quality research so I could promote over priced supplements (based on rat/mouse studies and small studies in predator journals) that earn me millions while claiming I am not biased by my income stream.

What about the level where I read the short blurb by an actual expert on social media that referred to a more in depth article for lay people (including references) but rather than read the longer explanation I chose to disagree based on my lived experience?

What Happens When Socialists Are in Charge? Portland Offers a Glimpse.

www.nytimes.com/2025/10/04/u...

The article is actually, β€œWe don’t know what happens when democratic socialists are elected in Portland because they haven’t done anything yet.”

The NY TIMES, β€œAll the news that’s fit to speculate. β€œ

I passed through Portland 2 months ago. The Saturday street fair was particularly frightening with the mother/son folk duo singing at us.

Building things takes time. Destroying them takes very little time and the GOP has been been getting excellent results as measured by their ability to eliminate programs. It takes no time at all to eliminate cancer research for example, but takes years if not decades to build up that capability.

The press is complicit in this. Rather than ensure viewers are presented the truth, they just call balls and strikes. But the press has a role which is to call out the liars as liars and not be afraid when the right wing complains. When the right wing doubles down, the press has to as well.

02.10.2025 00:33 β€” πŸ‘ 12    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

"confuses compromise with capitulation." That phrase is going into the memory bank for use later. Great point.

No he isn't. He is just a very lazy thinker who got in early as a blogger which got him a job at the Post and then his stint as Rachel Maddow's substitute anchor lent him her halo. He keeps failing up.

It's obvious the people who are arguing against your point didn't bother to read the article. Abortion has actually been a winning topic. It even won in Kansas. Dems could show how forced birthers are not pro life because they are pro-gun, anti health care, anti food stamps etc. Instead, they caved.

So old fashioned. An apology note? What is this, 1970?

Sadly, the bar is now so low that the fact the guy waited for CHP to show up and acknowledge what he did is a huge victory. However, he probably figured he was on camera somewhere and stayed only because he thought he would get caught.

When you wrote Hegseth is β€œtrying to bolster his stature” it seems like β€œtrying” was doing a lot of heavy lifting in that sentence.

To a non military guy like me, it looked like an epic fail. I’m curious how you are gaging the reaction from the attendees in the room?

Many journalists argue it isn’t their job to call balls and strikes. This absolves them ( in their minds) of any moral responsibility for the consequences of publishing the leak. It’s all about the clicks.

For Trump, Job and Crime Data Is β€˜Phony,’ Unless It Supports His Views The president has ping-ponged between boasts about jobs and crime and attacks on their data sources. Here’s how he is threatening trust in public data.

A President’s β€˜Surreal’ Advice Worries Pregnant Women

Surreal? Perhaps. But more importantly, wildly misinformed and incorrect

@nytimes.com when a statement is clearly wrong as the best studies on this topic have shown, just fucking say that. It’s not that hard to differentiate cherry picking data from quality research
