The Republican spending bill is a historic theft that will take from the poor to give to the already-rich.

Republicans passed this knowing people will die.

They know people will lose their health care.

They know children will go hungry.

They will own the tragic results. We can't let them forget.

life expectancy among states graph

The states with the lowest life expectancy are all GOP-run

The states with highest are all Democratic

Researchers say systemic factors like socioeconomic disadvantages, limited access to health care, and weaker public health initiatives have lasting impacts on mortality

Americans do not support using the military to police civilians especially when the LAPD is already equipped to handle such situations.

Trump border czar warns L.A. protesters: 'Someone's going to lose their life' Border czar Tom Homan suggested ICE agents could kill protesters if demonstrations continue in California. NBC News' Jacob Soboroff spoke to Homan on Sunday about mostly peaceful demonstrations taki...

Sure sounds like Homan wants to kill people.

Our military is being used to repress us, not protect us.

That’s what makes this no longer an administration, but a tyrannical regime.

Sand Martins seem to be doing well at Girdle Ness this year. This one was crouching down on top of the concrete shelter by the Battery today.

The Congressional Budget Office said the sweeping Republican bill to cut taxes and slash federal programs would add $2.4 trillion to the national debt over the next 10 years. Fewer services for the American people, but yet more debt.

I've seen folks talk about how "in four years" they'll be able to get back to their planned projects and I really don't think that's going to work out. People & projects losing funding now will not be able to hit pause and come back once funding is restored. Hard-won progress & capacity will be lost

Great analogy. Like arsonists seeking cheap thrills, the administration is cutting science funding to bask in fleeting political theater without considering that the damage will last generations, if we are even ever able to recover from it.

I had to merge two of my subsections together because there was a lot of overlap between them. Attempting to keep them separate, as was my original plan, was going to make them both disappointing.

I finally managed to break through a several-week-long writer’s block on my lit review for my thesis.

The problem is, I know most of the information, but getting it out in a cohesive way takes even more effort than combing the literature.

something that stands out about this is just how cheap it is for us to have world-leading scientific capacity

we spent ~6.75 trillion last year, and the combined budgets for NIH, NSF and NASA are barely more than 1% of that

what an incredible waste to lose it all for a drop in the bucket

Such as:

How many applications is too many? Should I apply to multiple programs at the same school or stick to one? When is the best time to apply? How do I find a supervisor who would best match my research idea? How do I apply for funding? How do I format my cv?

Army circulates guidelines for expelling transgender troops from military Army guidelines instruct commanders and soldiers on interacting with and identifying service members with gender dysphoria as they leave the military.

New: @CBSNews obtained internal Army documents showing how transgender soldiers will be forced out. A particular separation code the Army is giving officers is associated with individuals who are national security risks potentially jeopardizing future jobs www.cbsnews.com/news/army-tr...

I really wish I knew more people who had applied to/done PhD programs. Especially Americans who did PhD programs in Europe. Because I’m both worried that I’m overthinking everything and that I’ll miss something crucial.

The treatment of trans people by the U.K. and U.S. governments often takes the form of state-sanctioned sexual harassment and assault. Contrary to the idea that this protects women from sexual violence, it demands it. Giving officers access to women’s bodies ensures it

Took a couple months for me. It felt like finally being able to breathe after a lifetime of not knowing I was suffocating. Colors were brighter. I could finally think clearly.

There are so many things I wish more cis people knew but this is near the top of the list. HRT can improve mental health.

HRT did more for me than create physical changes. Within three hours of my very first dose, a noise in my head I never knew was there just… stopped. The world got quieter for the first time in my life, and it’s stayed that way ever since. I’m at peace inside in a way I had never been before.

It's cool how a few years ago everyone was like, "Oh, I just have concerns, we need more evidence." and every time there's more evidence they go, "No that doesn't count."

Utah lawmakers’ own study found gender-affirming care benefits trans youth. Will they lift the treatment ban? The Utah Legislature's own newly-released study found that gender-affirming care benefits trans youth. Now, will lawmakers lift the treatment ban?

Utah commissioned a review of the evidence on gender-affirming care for youth alongside its ban in 2023. The results have just recently been reported.

An Assigned reporter will be reading the entire document (which the Tribune story says is over 1000 pages) over the long weekend.

RFK Jr. mentioned in the CNN interview that they plan to β€œreplicate” all of the vaccine studies by March 2026. This is impossible. And they’ve hired a fraud to do the analysis.

There was also a vague statement that groups of scientists would to β€œbid” for the work. This is not how funding works.

The House Republican reconciliation bill will now ban both surgeries and HRT prescription under Medicaid for all Americans.

Earlier, I posted that it wouldn’t affect HRT. This is incorrect.

I was mistaken, because the bill refers to medications for trans people… as β€œprocedures.”
