I do have more optimism for the future than I did at inauguration, simply because I think this strategy of "break everything all at once as fast as we can without any window dressing" is not sustainable and is going to manifest public fury in the coming year.

The state BOE has had a busy summer.

It banned 55 titles by pretending HB 1539 became law (it didn’t), used the new AG “Office of Parental Rights” to threaten educators with jail time, and appointed a new Commissioner to further push an anti-democratic agenda.

It's also very important to remember, book bans are just, as you say further in your thread, one form of ban. Lack of access, no school libraries, no public libraries - these are all also defacto bans and speak to inequality and the deeper issues.

Watching book bans has given me a unique perspective - there is a continued rise 21-25 - more laws, more regulations, more advocacy by extremists - and more unwillingness by "liberal" people to read the writing on the wall.
