Yesterday, Nassauβs Statutory Compliance Team decided eleven library removals/restrictions that conflict with the 2024 settlement agreement the district made with parents and authors.
Highlighted titles were previously returned to shelves per the agreement.

Facebook post from an affiliate of citizens Defending Freedom - Texas that reads, in part, βNew Braunfels ISD suspended their library services to all schools due to the newly imposed SB effective September 1st.Β Β What a win for our children!!!! Itβs time we get this dangerous ideology out of our schools.Β Β This is the law!!!!!β
βWhat a win for our children!!!!β
Imagine writing that about the *closure* of libraries for middle and high school students across an entire district.
New Braunfels ISD libraries could be closed for months while the district reviews every book in its collections.

You're high off the No Kings demonstration but don't know what to do next? Decolonize your mind. Practice active anti-racism. Talk to your friends about how you can commit concrete acts that dismantle white supremacy. Think about how you interact with Black people. Unpack your internal biases.

A safety guide for No Kings peaceful protest. It encourages you to know your rights, stay in groups, and pack light. It discourages you from posting photos of unblurred faces, carrying weapons, or engaging with aggressors.
Goodnight, friends.
This is not a drill. If you can join in a protest tomorrow for #NoKings, do it!
If you can't, amplify the message, put a sign in your window, donate to a progressive cause, or write your elected officials. Just do something.
Stay safe. Use your voice.
I love you.

A Texas District Has Just Banned Students from Secondary School Libraries
In order to ban books from its libraries, New Braunfels Independent School District has just closed its libraries to middle and high schoolers.
Why ban books when you can ban the entire library?
New Braunfels ISD has frozen library purchase orders & closed secondary campus libraries following a harassment campaign by Libs of Tik Tok & other out of district extremists.

Book Bans Continue to Threaten the Wellbeing of Authors - Electric Literature
There are societal, financial, legal, and emotional consequences to book challenges, and writers are facing the brunt of these attacks
One weird thing about book bans is that the authors of banned books have been ignored or sidelined in a lot of the discourse and in the anti-censorship activism. So Iβm not exactly βgladβ to see this article, but I appreciate it a lot. electricliterature.com/book-bans-co...

I think about this all the time. Type in is there porn in school libraries and the moms begin a journey to a variety of purposely open groups where I've watched them be taught how to cause havoc in school libraries and trust is eroded in schools. Weaponization of moms is what I call it.
