Michael Grillo Awarded $1.1. Million NSF CAREER Grant: Loyola University Chicago Michael Grillo, assistant biology professor in the College of Arts and Sciences, was awarded a $1.1 million NSF CAREER grant to advance his research on microbiomes.

Happy to share some good news! March has been a big month for me. I got tenure (thanks letter writers!!) and was awarded a NSF CAREER grant to study the genetics and evolution of plant-microbiome interactions. I'll be recruiting MS students and a postdoc.

When we use seedlings instead of seeds, even when we plant seeds, we disrupt the microbiome cycle. Time to accept how ecology works. Time to accept Charles Darwin. Time to accept that germs are real. Many rewilding projects play Minecraft and not Nature. See meat too

Remarkably, the same locally trained model also predicted plant growth differences in global datasets, suggesting a highly conserved interconnection between the soil microbiome and plant performance across environments.
