This plaque at the Manchester cenotaph is dedicated to the service men and women from Poland, who served in the British armed forces during WW2. The RAF Museum and Imperial War Museum have an incredible amount of information on the 19,400 Polish RAF personnel who served.

Originally published in 1932, 'The Division Bell Mystery' was the only mystery novel to be written by Ellen Wilkinson, one of the first women elected to Parliament. Thankfully, her book has been republished as part of the British Library's Crime Classics.

It's fascinating that Manchester's Ellen Wilkinson started her teaching career in 1906 in Chorlton-C-Hardy and became a councillor for the Gorton ward in 1923; later becoming an Member of Parliament in 1924-1931 and again in 1935-1947.

What I love about stained glass, is how it can be used to illustrate the stories of people and events. In Manchester's Victoria Baths, stained glass also celebrates two very popular sports; cricket and wrestling.

One word can have many meanings and in Hebrew, the word Bethlehem is pronounced as Beit Lechem. Translated into English this means House of Bread.

In Arabic, it's also pronounced as Bayt Laḥm and in translation means House of Meat. How would we then translate Abwoon D'bwashmaya?

Throughout Lent and Ramadan, every night is a date night. Along with the nutritional benefits that come from including dates in your diet, this legendary fruit and its syrup, are also edible windows into stories which explore world history, culture(s) and geography.

Is stained glass an underappreciated form of art? These two are located at the Manchester Jewish Museum and across the city, there are other historic buildings which are also home to stained glass windows.

Some stories need to be told again and again, and Yellowstone is one. Equally, the spin off Yellowstone series are just as fascinating and Helen Mirren in 1923 shines bright like a diamond.

Ninety years ago, the world was a different and equally challenging place. And this is illustrated in the book 'Unlikely Warriors' by Richard Baxell, which gives focus on the roles of British volunteers in Spain between the years of 1936-1939.

In 1954, the BBC made its first ever documentary about male homosexuality and don't forget, the Stonewall riots didn't happen until 1969.

But this documentary sat on the shelves for three years until a heavily edited version was finally broadcast in 1957. Then it was lost. Until now...

On display at the Manchester Jewish Museum is Leo's Teddy, which was brought to Manchester by Leo Marcus after WW2. The teddy bear once belonged to his son, who didn't survive the Holocaust and Leo Marcus later gave it to his neighbours, for their children to play with.
