Kudos to the TO of this Berryessa orange train at 9:22 am that gave crystal clear San Francisco transfer announcements and waited until the train was out of the Ashby subway but well before the MacArthur on ramps to speak so everyone could hear him. @bart.gov should be the norm not exception

There's a week left for the Governor to sign bills. Phone lines open at 9am on Monday, make those calls to ask him to sign SB 79 to bring more housing near transit in California. In the meantime you can also send a message at www.gov.ca.gov/contact/

Trump Scolds Netanyahu for Pessimism on Gaza Peace Deal Trump reportedly scolded Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for being pessimistic following a conditional agreement from Hamas to Trump's peace proposal.

Maybe this is all performance, but if its not it's pretty embarrassing that Trump went harder on confronting Netanyahu than Biden did.

The Vice President of the United States used his social media page to tell Joy Reid, a private citizen with no connection to the government, that she should express "gratitude" for how this country has treated her.

Black women remain the most consistent targets in all of this.

Does SamTrans have any bus-only lanes on any of its routes?

If you dont venture out to Oakland or to SF bars not on your startup Slack's party channel then yeah its only going to be tech people. Duh.

I agree that NYC nightlife is better than SF. NYC being more diverse in industries and housing affordability makes for a better city. But it's easy to avoid tech crowds if you avoid tech scenes. Its a self report when people complain that everyone they know is tech. Tech's only 12% of the workforce.

That is a more immediate solution, agreed. Probably rife with liability issues. Any moving bollards in the US?

The Key was a dying system but the segments that had grade sep from the street was where the system picked up speed. The only profitable train line was F-Shattuck because the F had much more grade seps on its routes so it was reliable. The worst was A (Int'l/E14). Adeline was a train speedway!

Again the old streetcar mixed in traffic would be a terrible idea of course.

Key had some ROWs like Muni does now and yeah the K or M sections are examples. Still LA is developing grade separations for light rail.

Also Japan is able to run high frequency metros with at train crossing arms for at grade crossings. Its not impossible the US but we opt for total grade sep.

If it were a traffic mixed streetcar id be against but a full grade seperated rail like i showed in the old tram is ideal to stop the issue if cars using the bus lanes to speed in Oakland

So maybe it isnt a fluke and BART seriously schedules Richmond trains to come at least 13 minutes at 5 o'clock? yesterday it was 17 minutes.

03.10.2025 00:00 β€” πŸ‘ 5    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 2    πŸ“Œ 0

Yes, AC Transit's BRT is a downgraded version of the 1990s plan for Light Rail.

02.10.2025 23:34 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 2    πŸ“Œ 0

As for International Blvd, I think the medium term answer to the traffic violence issues is just to convert it into a lightrail system with tracks over rocks, therefore drivers can't use the bus lanes anymore. It was originally supposed to be a train until austerity cuts.

02.10.2025 23:04 β€” πŸ‘ 14    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

I'm not sure where ACT even sees itself in the next couple decades. Ridership has been down without refuge for 30 years now. It does a big realign every 10 years and East Bayers keep buying cars or bikes, even as population grows.

Fully grade separated trains via rock trenches in the East Bay's vast streets built for these old trains like this one in North Berkeley, coupled with signal priority or full metro-like grade separation, would be much more popular, and citizens would tax themselves for it.

02.10.2025 22:52 β€” πŸ‘ 15    πŸ” 2    πŸ’¬ 3    πŸ“Œ 0

Bus Rapid Transit would've been more popular in the East Bay had ACT stuck with trains instead of buses. And even though BRT is an operational success, the black eye of traffic issues on International has all but foreclosed future expansions. Fully grade separated train tracks have an advantage.

02.10.2025 22:49 β€” πŸ‘ 15    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 4    πŸ“Œ 0

I think if AC Transit's governance was changed to a head director's like Muni it would be a much better system. But the agency has really lacked since BART's inception any desire to offer competitive expansion. Restoration of full grade light-rail lines being an obvious one.

Urban Alchemy worker asked a man to stop using drugs outside S.F. Main Library. Now he’s dead According to the nonprofit, Joey Alexander, 60, approached the suspect and asked him to stop openly using drugs in front of the Main Library, telling him there were families nearby.

Two of my relatives i learned at a funeral last week apparently live in the Tenderloin, one of which is a former addict, and they just ranted for like an hour at how horrible drug dealing has become and that they need to move away. Something's got to be done.
