Yeah amazing what you can do. In about 2008 I bought a new COU and motherboard for my desktop. It was a socket that had just recently come out. In about 2015 I bought a 2nd hand Xeon (server chip) which was the 2nd fastest ever released for that socket, for £80 and got ~5 more years out of it.
